Default Dyno Tune: 170k 2.5L + Sargent Power S256 Borg Warner kit makes 394awhp

I am posting up for the customer, Amonsta. This one was pretty surprising. I was a little apprehensive when I saw the odometer at 160k, but it has been very well maintained by the owner. We put the kit on the car and did a little street tune a little while ago at over 160k miles on this motor. The original (yes 160k on that too) OEM clutch went out shortly after putting the Borg Warner on and we had to get that taken care of before we could turn it up much. Andy Mullins put in an Exedy HD organic clutch which holds great and fabricated the intercooler piping to make everything a little more stream lined. After life getting in the way we were finally able to get together to get it on the dyno and finish this thing. The original motor now has over 170,000 miles on it. Who says Subarus are not reliable?!?

Event: dyno pull
Location: Mainstream dyno in Dallas, GA
Ambient Temp: 64 degrees +-
Elevation: 1,043 FT above sea level
Weather: mostly sunny
Car: 2004 STI
Tuner: Mike Sargent
Dyno Info: Dynojet
Peak HP at RPM: 394 @6250 Standard correction, 390 SAE corrected
Peak Torque at RPM: 365 @4800 Standard Correction, 362 SAE corrected
Transmission: 04 Sti 6 speed
Dyno Gear: 3rd
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: 220? Never worked on this particular one before
Target Boost: 22
Target AFR: 10.8-11.1
Fuel: 93 octane unleaded
Engine/Power Modifications:
-Bone stock 170,000 longblock and intake manifold
-Sargent Power S256 Borg Warner turbo kit
-OEM Subaru wrx tgv's (flap removed) and fuel rails
-Injector dynamics 1000cc injectors
-SSAC Front mount intercooler-Modified piping
-Hallman pro boost controller
-Walbro 255 fuel pump
-Catback exhaust

Driveline Modifications:
-Exedy HD organic clutch
Suspension Modifications: Unknown
Other Modifications: Wheels...I do not recall the brand

3rd gear pull.

I went ultra conservative on this one with the timing and air fuels. Every little bit of boost kept making more and more power, but I decided to stop where we were. The Injector Dynamics bosch 1000's worked great. They are really very consistent and help not only with smooth power, but also with great drivability on the car. But with 170k on the engine I just started to get uncomfortable going any higher.

The funny part is the shop owner came over and cranked down on the straps about mid way through the runs and we saw a 12 hp and around 10 lbft of torque loss...same timing, air fuels, everything. That was the first time I had experienced that. The above run was with them cranked down. Loosened up where the tires were not pushed flat on the rollers it probably would have been over 400, but either way, the car feels great and pulls strong. This dyno was an above ground dyno, so gotta keep it tight I guess, lol. Would not want a car shooting off the dyno.

But hopefully he will be doing a built motor here in the next 6 months or so and we can turn it up more for him and see what this little Borg Warner S256 is capable of! At that time we will probably increase the intake size as well since it is close to maxing out the 3" inlet. Congrats Amonsta!

Looks solid , leave it to a bw to make 400 whp on a damn near 200,000 mile ride !!! Does the boost come back really fast in between shfts? This has me just itching for spring, I've got a bw 91-79 twin scroll (around 40r sized) waiting to meet some Bosch 2000cc's and a Garrett cored front mount....

I would have been sweating too , When your tuning someone elses car its a different ball game than just tuning your own, you get on a mission to get everything done right with no errors b/c nobody wants to F up another mans ride...Looks good keep the borgs coming crashtke

Ya it got me a bit nervous, but the car seems to be taking it well. It just liked it richer than normal for some reason. Had it been on a fresh motor I would have taken it up a bit more, but I was NOT going to push this one.

We got 3 more coming. Sargent Power S366 twin scroll kit, S256 twin scroll kit and not sure exactly what the third one is going to be yet. The 366 will have 2200 cc injectors and be run on E85 with 9.5:1 compression

As for this, yes, they do come back into boost amazingly fast...as fast as any ball bearing I have seen.

Well, Andy and I fab up the kits too. Andy does some amazing welding! We are looking at going into production with it, but it is a matter of getting the money or investors first.

Mine should be interesting with the TS 366. I am going to see how far I can push the stock ECU. This one will be pretty decent too when we get the block rebuilt and turn it up!

Nice How big is the TS s366? The 366 will scream on spool up a local around here has one TS and it sounds sick! I picked up the BW Airwerks 91-79 TS (around 40R Sized) this spring for my car on E85 with 9.5:1 compression , I am using the Id 2000cc injectors too! I had the ID 1000cc last year and loved them!.... I am tuning using the stock computer too , I am going with the grp N rom so I can use SD ect ect ... Spring is aproaching fast ! Should get interesting around here...

Yeah, if I can get funds up to finish the car, spring will be a lot of fun. I think I am going to cheap out for now and just get a front mount and no dry sump. I can always add those in later. The custom intercooler is going to take some time to fabricate everything, so fmic is just cheap and easy. 366 is the same as what you have. S300sx, 91-79, 366, whatever name you want to call it. Funny, our builds will be very similar.
