Relax. He (she?) said he would find out and get back to us. I hope he will do as promised and updates us on whatever he can. Let's see.

Well, this thread's been dead for a few days. Guess I might as well post another '09 Forester passenger seat height complaint, just to give SOA Blog somethin' to do.

http://townhall-talk.edmunds.com/dir.../.f178d36/1871
"Just got our 09 Limited yesterday. Love it except for the low passenger seat, which I had read about on this forum. Has anyone come up with a solution? Any way to unbolt it , install a spacer of some sort, reattach it?
I can't believe that it is mounted so low, and not adjustable... My 12 year old Explorer was way better than this, power adjust on both sides.
Any ideas??"

There are a couple follow up posts I won't bother with. However, one of them says:

"Why don't you call Subaru customer service and ask them directly? Perhaps they have had enough comments about this issue to have something in the works.
Although I don't have the Limited, I'm surprised, like you, that they didn't have this covered(in all models). I think the issue is more with the size and placement of the cowl than it is with the seat. The seat is an easier fix of course.... I'm guessing the cowl placement is there for safety."

We checked into this and the seats have the same height relationship to each other as did the '08, but as the post says above, with the cowl and waistline being higher, more drivers are using the height adjustment on their seat than was the case before, and so more passengers are noticing the height difference when they do.

I finally got my 09 XT Limited. At 6'5" I have no issues with the passenger seat.

I do though have an issue with how the delivery process worked. Who do I need to contact at SOA to let them know that the delivery process on a special order vehicle is totally unacceptable for a "premium" brand? I just can't believe how little information was available to my dealer and myself.

Speaking of which...

I had a '09 Forester for the weekend. It was a dealer loaner as my WRX was awaiting front disk pads.

We also have a '01 Forester, which is my wife's car. When I parked the '09 Forester next to the '01 Forester-from the rear, the bottom edge of the '09 model's rear window is significantly higher than that of the '01 model. In fact my wife commented that it was more difficult for her backing down our driveway with the new model than with her's because of that.

Subaru should offer a rear camera on the new Forester to help with this.

One more suggestion while I'm at it...

The JDM Exiga-on vehicles without navigation-uses the same screen that's used on NAV-Equipped models. US-spec Foresters and Imprezas should also do the same. The reason being you can then offer Bluetooth on non-NAV models. This is important as more and more jurisdictions are requiring hands-free cell phones. California and Washington (both the state and the U.S. capital) have recently done so, and more are sure to come.

Funny, we tested the '09 against the competition and rear visibility is WAY better, I mean WAY better than the others.

Could be, but against older Foresters that may not be the case. I too was surprised when my wife commented on that, but that was her first reaction. She did like the extra space though.

Why does the 09 Forester have a bag for the tools, yet all the tools are in the cubby slots for them? (aka random bag with no purpose) seems like a (small) waste of money.

BTW the STI pink on grey bags is hot

Completely agree!!! I hate the "normal" radio in the current impreza. Its so ugly. My gf agrees, reminds her of cheap GM cars. Just adding the screen w/o the navigation would fix this problem. The cars interior is designed to have a screen. Put one there!

The passengers are not only noticing the difference between themselves and the driver, they're also noticing the height of the cowl directly in front of them.

So is a "fix" a possibility? (And you'd better not say SOA is planning on removing the driver's height adjustment to resolve this difference between seat heights. )

Yeah, we're thinking of lowering the cowl and the vehicle waistline.

Seriously, we have looked at why the issue might be occuring, and now we'll see how much of an issue it is with Forester owners and we get that data through satisfaction surveys. Like I said before, as with anything, if it's an issue for enough people, (of the 50,000 buyers p.a.) and it's fixable, we'll fix it.

A simple solution is to replace the front passenger seat with the driver's seat from RHD models, which has a seat height adjuster. Yeah, it would cost a few extra bucks, but it would work.

Dear SOA Blog,

I heard that we will get the updated information about the 09 WRX before/at the end of July. Is that true or a rumor?

Thank you.

As you know, the other Subaru 2009s are out now, and we hope to have information on the 2009 Impreza line-up by the end of the month.

Don't be happy when you've made a better product than your competition, be happy when you make a great product? Don't compare yourself to the land yachts out there. Subaru has always said that their cars are different anyway.

Building a great vehicle should be what makes a Subaru a Subaru, not just building one that's "different" or "better" than the competition.

Just my $.02

Oh, and we've seen some shots of the new Spec C STi and heard some stats about it. Can you confirm ANYTHING regarding the vehicle?

I think it's both different AND better. But you have to compare to the competition. Its not as fast as a Z4, but hold more luggage. Is it better? People in the market for a compact, crossover SUV will look at the Forester, CRV, RAV4 etc... and ours by far has the best rear view.

Just my $.02

We don't talk about future product. And that's not a hint. We just don't. Well, some do, but it's just not allowed.

who cares about the Spec C. we won't get it in the US and many can't even afford the new more expensive standard STI as it is.
I wish they made a cheap STI instead of more expensive ones.

The STI went up $1500 over 4 years with a crappy exchange rate and yet quality went up up up.

If you cannot afford a $1500 price hike (over 4 years) then you could not afford an STI in the first place.

There's a little guy on the end of the production line who used to do this on the old car and we haven't the heart to let him go.
