It Better

Default Easy Question about detuning (I think it's easy, anyways)

I have an 07 WRX as follows:

Perrin FMIC with short ram and AVO 50/50 (that I'm going to make a cover so it's full recirculating, so hold the comments)

Open sourced tuned

Running wastegate pressure (whatever that means....tuner who checked the tune and did the PPI for me made that change to take it down a notch)

3" turboback.

What I want to to: Replace the entire turboback with an 07 STi exhaust.

What I want to know: Can I assume that this will be safe?

Why the hell would I do this? I've taken posession of the car for reasons you don't need to know and I have no desire for more power and all that noise and have the full oem exhaust, so it's an easy thing for me to do.

If it's safe to do without a retune, I'll do it. If not, I won't and will concentrate on other things to un-teenager the car.

Thank

Should be fine if it is running wastegate boost (7psi).

If it is running on the mass air sensor it should be fine.

If you are running on speed density without the mass air sensor, it might make things a bit richer, but not much to worry about.

Please consider keeping the 3" exhaust and adding pieces to it. A 3" exhaust can be made very quiet. If you don't have a catalyst, that will remove a lot of noise. After that, adding a resonator, and finally a straight through muffler can change the tone so that it is deep and quiet.

A larger exhaust helps in all aspects of a turbo car's functioning, please don't dismiss it as something a kid would do. It spools up faster and makes more torque and power, and can potentially help with fuel mileage. Even on waste gate boost it is still something that makes the car enjoyable. It is acceptable for respected members of the community to rock the scooby rumble, it doesn't have to sound like you belong in the backwards hat crowd.

It's going to increase the back pressure a bit, which could lead to detonation, but if you're really only running W/G without any form of BC on there, it shouldn't be a problem.

If you want to look at if after there are plenty of people local to you that can do a quick check and tune it for MPG and lite power instead of for max power... Just need to ask around.
