Default NO 5TH Gear after Clutch Replacement.

So I noticed my clutch was slipping in higher gears and decided to replace it as usual in that situation. The entire install/replacement went smooth and I got the transmission back on with new bearings. The car is also still on stands. Now here is the issue, I went to test all my gears to make sure the car was shifting right and everything will go into gear except 5th. 3rd and reverse almost seem like there clicking into gear but not all the way like 1st, 2nd, and 4th.

Before I replaced the clutch everything shifted fine and smooth. Now I thought it was possible the linkage not being straight with the trans but I have the trans jacked up and straight. No matter what angle I go at 5th gear just won't engage.

Would it not go into gear because the oil has leaked out?

If my shifter coming out of the trans was bent would it only effect 5th? (it does not look bent to me and was never in a position to get bent).

The only thing I i noticed was bent was the linkage that goes around the metal cylinder on the shifter connected to the trans. However I bent that back and was able to connect the two. It's a tight fit with the bolt and nut so I don't see how that could be effecting it.

Any ideas are appreciated.

What car/transmission is it? Might be a bad synchro

2014 WRX, I just did the clutch, car is still on the stands and it just won't push into 5th. (not trying to force it).

I can't imagine a syncro just going bad from sitting there. i'll look into it though.

Engine off, synchro is not really used so I don't think that is his issue.

Put the car on the ground...start her up...and try to put it into 5th and see what happens.

You didn't identify which model car so I have to guess - you bent the U-joint looking piece? If that is what you bent that is probably the problem. Get a new shift joint.

My bad, missed it in the 3rd post - then yes, a bent joint will be his cause.

The u-joint between the shifter and the shift rod that sticks out the back of the transmission.

So the U-joint was bent and I was able to bend it back to connect it with the cylinder prior to this thread. It was after bending it back and connecting it that I noticed it would not shift. Or are you guys saying the entire shift rod going into the transmission is bent? That would make more sense to me I guess.

I have attached an image of the part that was bent. the U brackets were bent too much inward to get the cylinder in however I bent them back out in order for it to slip in and push the bolt through and tighten it down with the nut.

When you installed the transmission did it slide together nicely or did you have to use the bell housing bolts to draw in the transmission?
