Hill climb question, little "sight" dealy on the fron of the cars?
Ok, I've seen these little wing/sight dealy's on the fron of hill climb cars, they are verticle, about 6-8" high and on the fron of the car, either centrally or on either side of the front fenders...Mostly I've seen them on open wheel cars though.

You talking about small, wing shaed things like on an F1 car? Or more like an antenna?
The ones on F1 cars are cameras. F1 cars also have comm/telemtry antennas on top of the nose, as well as a 90 degree bent tube that can only be described as a pitot tube, like on an airplane, and I'm usre serves the same purpose: to take in ram air for an airspeed reading. The timing light thing may be true for the hill climb cars, yes, but as far as I know, most racing series just use a transponder to time/lap count the cars. Gotta fly! Skippy,
No, he means the piece of upright metal fixed to the front of hillclimb cars.. You can see it sticking up from the front wing of this car. <IMG SRC="http://216.242.153.40/MembersList/UserPics/2201/event016.jpg" border=0> and sticking out from the front of the red Triumph TR6 (#166) in this pic <IMG SRC="http://216.242.153.40/MembersList/UserPics/2201/hillclimb.jpg" border=0> Richard |

yeah, Richard is on the right wave length. Thanks for posting pics, i always thought it was to keep a visual indicator of the cars attitude, like a string on the nose of a glider.....to show slip angle.

oh talking about Hillclimb..
If you are ever in the UK then do try to get to the Hillclimb at Prescott. Especially try to get to a Ferrari and Bugatti Owners Club meeting. The sight and sound of the Type 35 Bugatti's climbing the Hill is AMAZING.. How something that fragile looking can go that fast is beyond me. Details of their meets are at http://www.prescott-hillclimb.com Richard |
