No need. Pulling the manifold and everything connected to it will go way over the time allotted. Sticking with my original plan unless this is a freak shop day with an empty shop

alright, I do know that the techs have shortcuts and ways to do things a lot quicker and efficiently through practice, you can at the least use the opportunity to buy them a drink and ask them if there are any steps you can take to do the job more efficiently

That's a good idea sir.
Might as well bring the parts just in case too. |

this list is specifically to provide a good idea for how many people are going to be at shop day, and ensure the staff will be able to adequately assist you guys |

I'll talk to the guys and see what they think, I know people have signed up for both in the past, and just ended up in the show all day. I don't think we've had anyone actually do both.

Work plan change and questions....
OK, I have changed my plans to....
1. Mark Ferring 2. 2004 WRX 3. Rotors and Brake pads (Use to be transmission ujoint and bushings). I assume I keep my place in the queue.... So, I have never done a shop day or brakes/rotors before. As brakes are of course critical, I want to make sure I don't screw up anything. Can someone tell me what the basic procedure is to get help from a tech including what a standard tip would be for rotors and brakes? Will they help me the whole time or only when I have questions? |

Tip, maybe some of the guys who've done brakes at a shop day can tell you what they tipped, but it's not going to take the full 2 hours (are you replacing rotors, or turning stock?) to get the job done. I'll check around and let you know if someone doesn't chime in before I get a chance. |

Thanks Samagon....
I plan to change both rotors and pads. Will probably go with Centric rotors and Stoptech performance pads from KNS. |

Also, decided to get some stainless steel brake lines and some ATE Super Blue to replace the old fluid. Been looking at all the installation videos. Looks like it is probably all doable in a few hours.
Still hoping to get a bit of guidance regarding appropriate tip size for the tech helping me, lets say on a per hour basis (or is it for how much help I ask for!). |

Tip techs based on what they do. I've gone thru a busy shop day without any help so didn't tip but I've also paid them for simple advice and using their tools. Keep in mind they aren't getting paid that day except tips. |

REMINDER: IF YOU NEED ANY PARTS AT SHOP DAY, CALL GILLMAN AND LET THEM KNOW BEFOREHAND. YOU DO NOT WANT TO BE WORKING AND RUN OUT OF GASKETS, FILTERS, FLUIDS, ETC.
6. Jason imma_stocker 08 sti Pulley swap, bleed brakes, oil pickup swap, fuel pump swap Plans changed, rear seats will be removed prior to shop for day fuel pump swap and will adjust for available time. Pulley swap (20 mins), bleed brakes (10 mins), oil pickup swap (30 mins), fuel pump (45 mins incl time to cut bucket). So I need to get there pretty early to knock it all out. One shop day I was pushed down the list then didn't have time to do it, got my refund but still had to do it without a lift (uppipe and headers 10x easier on a lift). If anybody has an 08+ WRX wagon I've got my stock 08 STI sways taking up garage space. Free for anyone local who'll use them. |

It is certainly worth mentioning this about 3 or 4 times Even though the service advisers handing out wristbands mention it when they give out the wristband and have people sign the wavers, there's always someone who ends up at the parts counter for 30 minutes while their car's in a shop bay. Granted, there's nothing you can do if you put the car up and you see a CV boot is leaking and decide to replace it while you're there, you just didn't plan for it. Also, remember there's a discount at the parts counter on the day of, so have the parts ordered, but pay for them when you check in at the service area on the day of the Big Event I will confirm what the discount is on day of, but it's worth not buying prior. |
