Default Is it possible to do an 06 to 05 front end swap?

I'm curious if its possible to just swap the hood, headlights, bumper and hood... I just can't seem to agree with the new snout for some reason and came to the conclusion if I really want the WRX along with its 2.5L engine that this is something I would have to do. I know TommyKaira has a kit coming out at the end of this year. I wonder if there is anyone else who has something in the works cause I'd love to get a new front end instead of doing a complete swap like that since it would cost a lot more instead of doing just a kit.

It's probably like doing an 02/03 -> 04/05 swap.

Maybe the new car will grow on you. I can't remember being totally impressed when the bugeyes came out in 2001 but now they are my favorite of all. I hated the 2004 when it came out but it has grown on me. If you love the way the car drives you will learn to love how it looks because of how it drives.

You don't buy a Subaru for the way it looks!

Exclamation just wait

I'm sure there are going to be a ton of aftermarket front ends that look way better than the stock one.

That's what I'm crossing my fingers about at the moment. I know there is that TommyKaira kit I mentioned before and I certainly hope others will follow suite asap.

Its already been way too long. Perhaps with a front emblem gone, it might look better. I'm not crying just yet... I just hope that the aftermarket people come up with something sweet.

Im confused... are you trying to make your 04-05 looks like an 06 or vice versa?
If you want your 04-05 to look like an 06, then trade it. Doing all that work for a front end that will only last another 2 years is rediculous.
If you want your 06 to look like an 04-05 then do the same. Trade it and get an 04-05 and save yourself some money.

The thing I like about the 06 is the 2.5L engine in the WRX...so it would be the latter of your comments....get an 06 front to look like the 04-05 but from what people have been telling me all over the net, there should be a good following of aftermarket front ends that will replace the 06.

oh ok, the 2.5 liter part skipped my mind. Stick with the 06, you will learn to love it.

I was at Barnes & Noble today and flipped through Subie Sport magazine.... the '06 is growing on me but I'm still interesting what kind of body kit offerings there will be from the aftermarket companies.

Thumbs up your answer!

to answer your question yes the 05 front end will fit on your 06 with some changes! i recommend gutting your 06 headlights and swapping them into the 05's to reuse your stock harness. you will be 2 bulbs short i believe and will need a wiring diagram to figure what to splice into if you want the full swap. you will need to notch the 4 "square holes in the front top section of the radiator support to clip the grill to. Also you will have to weld or use beefy self tappers to drill your upper bumper mounts to the core support. the only headlight support that fits is the headlight tabs into the fender. You will have to make custom tabs to mount them fully. You will have to use the stock 06 latch as the one we tried using wasnt long enough from the 05. the fenders bolt right in, the hood bolts right in, enough of the undertrays tabs line up and fasteners can be inserted. Didnt see a need to swap the undertrays from years. You DO NOT need to cut any metal from your 06 front to fit 05 headlights. But ultimatley in 13 hours we made an 05 sti front end fit on an 07 sti and vice versa completely with basic hand tools.

Or get an 04/05 sti. That way you get the 2.5 and the blob front end.
