Hey I was hoping to see a real 35k dollar tesla.

If he can do that and get 250 miles of real range...

that will be what I call a game changer.

Lets see what happens.

IIRC that is Teslas goal.

If it looks like that mini R class and has dual motor drive, **** yeah.

Sounds like the Chevy Bolt is much more up your alley. I'll be very surprised if Elon and co. put out a practical hatch like that, even sans the huge wheels and bubbly greenhouse via the fan site's imagination.

Too small,

That render above actually looks pretty good (to me) would prefer it more wagon than hatch, but I could live with it The Bolt OTOH? No cargo area at all.

JB Straubel, Tesla's chief technical officer, disclosed additional details of the luxury electric-car maker's plans at a conference in Washington, D.C. on Monday, saying the third-generation vehicles currently under development will be available as both sedans and crossovers. Due in 2017, the Model 3 lineup is expected to cost about $35,000 and give drivers 200 miles worth of battery range.
So there will be a Model 3X, as it were.

I. Want. Details. I really want this to be my next car, but the numbers have to be right. Also, I need to find an apartment or condo with a charger in the parking garage. I own a house right now, but am selling it and moving back into the city next year. So far, I've struggled to find living options for electric cars. Dammit, this is what government is for. Otherwise it's a chicken and egg thing. Neither will happen if you're waiting for the other thing to happen first.

Also, before someone starts with some free-market fantasies, a reminder that it took government help to make ICE cars viable, originally.

You're assuming by "city" he means Seattle. He could move to Bellevue or Tacomton

wait, government is for forcing me to pay for electrical car outlets in my own condo parking garage? The hell you say. If you want better options for a condo, go build one.

Fixed that for you. I sure don't miss living in Seattle. Good thing for him though, a metric F ton of liberal weenies so the good part of that is should be some condos/apartments with plug in charging somewhere. But it will be 240v and shared, which would suck. You really need your own garage with your own 240v charger for it to be viable. If I was stuck on 110 or shared 240v I'd be in a gas car. The hell with that.

Default Tesla Model 3 Teased Ahead Of Official Unveiling - And Leaked?

Quote:
Tesla Model 3 Teased Ahead Of Official Unveiling - And Leaked?

The teaser campaign for Tesla’s new entry-level model has begun, with a single image giving fans their first taste of what the Model 3 will look like.

A Model S sedan is shown parked next to a Model X SUV, while the shadowy figure on the right is the Model 3.

The image gives a perspective of the Model 3’s overall size, with the new car expected to be a midsized sedan designed to compete with the likes of BMW’s 3 Series and the Mercedes-Benz C-Class.

And ordinarily, we would have to wait for Tesla to play its next card (if any) ahead of the official unveiling at the end of the month, but Autoguide in the US claims to have sourced a picture of the real McCoy.

The image (below), which is reportedly a photo of a photo, shows a dome-shaped sedan with what appears to be ‘suicide doors’ for rear seat passengers.

The front maintains the Tesla look, albeit in a toned-down manner, and the windscreen appears to stretch far beyond the reaches of the A-pillar - perhaps as a one-piece front windscreen and roof.

Wheel design reflects those available on the Model S, as does the triangular indicator apertures in the front guards.

So is this the 2017 Tesla Model 3? We’ll have to wait and see.

Otherwise, Tesla has already revealed that the Gigafactory battery-manufacturing facility will play a key role in keeping the Model 3’s price down, with that price expected to be around $35,000 in the US (AU$46,000).

Maximum range from the battery pack has been estimated at anywhere from 250 to 400km, but Tesla has not confirmed a figure to date.

Tesla has reportedly begun sending invitations to guests for the launch event. While customers can place their orders now, at least in the US, first deliveries aren’t expected until next year.

Stay tuned to TMR for more.

A million EVs by 2012 even with the $7500 taxpayer subsidy it's just a pipe dream. This subsidy may end after next election cycle. It would be interesting to see how many who already owned an EV purchase another. I could not find this info while it is available for other cars. Tesla will have to push out a much larger inventory to make a profit. Keep in mind many other brands like BMW, MB, Audi about to join the party with a very small pie to divvy up. Think none can get a full meal unless a major oil shortage etc.

In 2015 Tesla seems to have eaten everyone's pie in the segment the Model S competes in http://evobsession.com/tesla-model-s...in-us-in-2015/. The 35k range is massive compared to that market. Tesla will continue to be production constrained when the Model 3 debuts. With full incentives like in MA or CA it's a 25k car base, which is an outright steal. But even without it, the efficiency and cost of the Model 3 means it can compete against a much lower gas price, no incentives needed. Someone choosing to buy an WRX STI over a Model 3 for example would spend tens of thousands more in running costs over the lifetime of the car.

However, by 2020/2021 all other things being equal there will be enough EV's on the road to impact the price of oil itself. Downward. There were 550k EV's sold worldwide in 2015, which means it was growing on an exponential with no sign of an S curve coming soon. http://insideevs.com/monthly-plug-in-sales-scorecard/. If you linearly extrapolate 2016 Q1 from 2015 Q1 to the full year, you get 825k EV's worldwide for 2016. The size of the market simply isn't a problem.

And we all know extrapolation of data is a sure fired way to make all predictions. You don't happen to work in climate science do you?
did you happen to read the little subnote on each chart..

Tesla model S sales are an estimate by EVobsession...

So they have no reason to falsify data to prove a point. I mean EVobsession sounds like a perfectly unbiased journalistic internet publication.

Still having said that, they did have a good year. I wonder if the other cars in the list had 10k dollars of tax savings and incentives if their numbers would have been better..
