things we felt when driving in her old Forester going over bumps, or potholes, we hit the same ones in the OBW, it doesn't even feel like anything.

I presume this is down to a few things, longer wheelbase, more suspension travel, and certainly a taller sidewall, but I'm so glad the wife decided the OBW was worth getting to replace the Forester. I know the cargo area is almost exactly the same volume, but the OB has more useful cargo area.

as far as saying the WRX saved the brand? I think the WRX created brand awareness among people who ended up buying Foresters and Outbacks 10 years after being introduced to the brand by the WRX.

so no, the WRX didn't save the brand, it just paved the way for the Forester and Outback to save the brand. I think considering everything these days being about outdoors, the Wilderness brand as a halo (instead of the STI) could elevate even more.

What year was the "old" Forester? SGP also did wonders for the ride. I was amazed at each model as they moved over to it. Cannot wait for 36 days to see how it does on the WRX.....finally. Been waiting 6 years for this.

she had one of the newer Forester Sports on the SGP platform.

the OBW is just superior at soaking up the bumps compared to the Forester. again, some of it's down to the longer wheelbase, suspension is different, and more sidewall to work with.

when the opportunity arises, I'll test drive the WRX, but the lack of STI model sure makes me lack motivation to trade in.

I planned on getting an STI. If it didn't impress me enough, then I'd get a WRX GT. Seeing the pricing on GT, I'll re-evaluate what I really want. I may be happy with a Limited. SPT it will be though. WITH the price of the WRX(GT), it did send a shiver about how much an STI would cost since I will also be getting a Forester or Outback late this year or early next. I know a few things about the BMC Outback; but, not everything yet. If IT doesn't impress me enough, then I'll get a Forester(LOVE the moonroof). I do think I'll be getting the Outback though, cause, unlike most here(that most of the haters haven't lived with), I like the 11.6 and it's capabilities. Don't think I'll get a Wilderness for a couple reasons. 3 main ones.....I want ventilated seats. I don't want to drop MPGs; and, I really wouldn't utilize it to it's potential to justify(to me) getting it.

Justy with the pricing of the WRX GT you'd be doing yourself a massive disservice by not looking at other options with auto & AWD. IS350, 3-series, A4; etc. you can get a much better vehicle with a planetary auto with a more sophisticated AWD system for similar money, unless "it must be a Subaru".

As others have made their points on here before, at the pricing of a GT, I trust Subaru more than spending my money on an unknown. I am one that is perfectly fine with the "CVT". I was a huge fan from the first day of training on the HTCVT knowing it's limitations....that I would have probably added the mods to help; and, I'm 100% sure I'm going to love the SPT that much more. I've been chided for having never owned anything but a Subaru; but, I have driven many cars. And none of them have convinced me to spend that kind of money to "try out". My cars have never failed me. Have I had repairs to them? Yeah, sure. I'm in a loaner now waiting to find out why my 170K mile Forester feels like the wheel is about to explode. I'll fix it and it'll soldier on. Engine is still purring and giving me 28mpg. My Baja is also at 170K and runs fine. My issue there is my moonroof motor. Not sure if I open it, will it close. So, it stays closed. Can't get a new one. Don't care to check daily for junkyard/used ones. I've been quite impressed with a number of cars. Again, just not enough to spend tens of thousands of dollars on for me to possibly dislike after a few months of owning it.
