My attempt at altering the Low Det fuel map
So..this is my first attempt at altering the fuel maps. I used many sources of info, books, Nasioc members and also lots and lots of data logs. As you can see from the screenshot, I richend the mixture in the mid load mid rpm range. you can compare the Stage 2 v122 map to mine below. I also leaned out the high load and high RPM areas where boost (according to the Boost map) begins to drop. Just gonna post this up here for opinions. Opinions such as, "Kaboom" and "your an idiot" or "I have a block for sale" are also welcome if that is what you really think.
This one is the modified one This one is the original v122 Stage 2

just out of curiosity...
why did you add fuel to the mid range? and what are you using to tune? stock narrowband or a wideband? |

Have you done any logging to see how the programmed targets match what your car is really doing? I don't have a WB, however, on the stock O2, it seems like the car is running a bit richer than the programmed values.

I raised fuel in midrange cause that is where my EGT's start to climb towards 1200+. I usually stay at .9 load when in normal cruising according to my datalog. I am using stock O2 but according to what many people say, in Cali, whether due to gas or enviornmental reasons, the cars here run leaner than programmed values. I am running a Stage 2 street tuner map, not specified for what octane gas.

It is close to the block. If you can picture this in your mind, the EGT is tapped near the Oil filter is. It is where both 1 and 3 meet. 1200 at a regular everyday driving pace seems high to me. EGT's easily go up to 1400 at half throttle in the 4000-5000 rpm range in 3rd gear. At WOT I reach 1600 in 4th. Unfortunatley, I have not been able to datalog a fourth gear pull at WOT from 3000RPM to redline. Gotta do that on a track ya know

I was going to say... if you're talking midrange cruise conditions, you should be at 14.7:1, period.
If you have an EGT issue, it's timing related. A WRX in the 2700-3500 range (typical highway cruise) is in the 39-42 degree area. Where the STI is about 3-4 more degrees above that. In the midrange for spoolability, I'd lean out a touch and add timing. But cruise conditions are what I've stated. Jorge (RiftsWRX) www.ProjectWRX.com |

I figured alot about timing advance but as of right now, Im not comfortable with altering those maps cause I dont know enough. Again, I am not running this map on my car, I am running the off the shelf street tuner map. This is just an attempt at learning how to tune. I appreciate all the help I have recieved and Hope to learn a little more about top dead center and timing. Im reading about TDC and so far all I seem to know is the optimum for torque is 8-10 degrees after TDC. Anyways, I still need to start with the basics of timing. Anyone have any good reads on it? When I mean basics, I mean BASICS... They should write a book, Tuning for dummies.
Orif someone could explain the degrees beore timing to me that would be great. just learnin here. |
