Deadbolt Monster TD 04 with Port and Polish
one word- Awesome.
so far I'm getting useable boost around at most 2500 rpms- yes I did samco hoses at the same time, but I don't think those would have dropped the boost that much. Feels stronger when pulling. You can hear the extra flow from it when on boost. It also elimated the boost creep I was experiencing with the Boost Monkey. I'll have pics of the difference, the ones on Deadbolt's site aren't that great edit- full boost by 3200 speed safely Brian

Thanks for sharing Brian, I am waiting for mine too. I will be GP Moto headers and turbo back along with a Vishnu stg 1 ecu.
Please post those pictures, I'll be posting my review about the Deadbolt Monster TD04 as soon as I get it back and have had a change to feel out the car's new setup on the Road Race Course. Last edited by Mushashi; 01-10-2005 at 01:16 PM. |

wow, totally forgot about this post. Unfortunately I didn't take any pics with my camera, but I'll try to hunt down the person that did. as for Dyno plots, I can do that kind of- I added the below in addition with the Deadbolt turbo
Monster TD04 with Port and Polish in addition to STi UP-pipe, Samco Hoses speed RPM WHP A/F 80 6403 176.2 10.8 Lambda PSI 0.74 10.8 Before with just Boost monkey, 3/16th mod, and straightpipe whp- 179.3 @ 15ish PSI I don't have a text version of the other stuff also note- I replaced the 3/16th with the stock connector again in other words- 4 less PSI but only 3WHP less as for spool- the graphs don't make sense- but before- full boost ~5250 after ~3500 hope that helps speed safely Brian |

Hello,
When I first read your thread about your turbo being ported and polished I was very enthusiastic, I couldnot wait for the result since you mentioned that your turbo felt like no other. Now you are telling me that you made 3hp less and 10psi of boost? How? the info that you gave us is very confusing, none of the info provided makes sense, the only quote that makes sense if that you say that now you get full boost at 3500rpm. I don't know what to tell you, I was very excited about doing the same thing to muy turbo but now I am holding on that. The pics are not very drastic either, the turbo with the port and polish looks almost as bad as the stock one(really dirty and oily by the way). Please do some more research and let me know because I want to port and polish mine but so far you are not impresing me. Thanks |

the psi issue is an engine mgt issue- my boost control wavers drastically, I truthfully don't know why it went all the way down to 10 but whatever.
the dirty look on the monster is a coating in order to protect it during shipping- if you look closely, you can see a definate and huge difference in the size of the housings and smoothness luckily, KTR put the dyno graphs on their website- this should make it a little easier to understand: Dyno Graph I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything- if you don't think it's for you, don't get it speed safely Brian |

the rest of the info just got compressed, maybe that's why some are confused
speed= 80 MPH RPM= 6403 WHP= 176.2 A/F= 10.8 Lambda= .74 PSI= 10.8 hope that clears it up speed safely Brian |

stock engine mgt still- but that will change shortly. my boost control is the culprit, but I don't want to get into that
no, I don't have a 3" yet that'll be in by the spring and yes, stock injectors and pump- I don't think it'd be necessary since it's just a stock turbo that flows a lot better- you can hear the difference hope that answers the questions speed safely Brian |

Prior to receiving my turbo, I had the following mods:
2004 Subaru WRX Sports Wagon Perrin Pulley Used Vishnu non-flex uppipe TurboXS Stealthback no cat version Prodrive axle back muffler Cobb AccessECU Stage 2 93 octane map Borla Headers JDM Ver. 7 STi Intercooler 2004 STi hoodscoop 2004 STi splitter 2004 STi shroud 2004 STi IC sprayer nozzle 2004 STi IC water spray switch Cobb AccessPort upgrade Needless to say, I have maxed out what Cobb's Stage 2 can support. Having heard what a Monster P&P does to a stock turbo, I was very interested in this modification. Further research showed my that Deadbolt also offers clipping services and internal port and polishing. I emailed Jerry about these services and decided the internal P&P was right for me as well. Jerry also recommended against the clipping based on my desires. These two services, I feel, don't receive enough attention on his website or on NASIOC, so I specifically mentioned them here to spread the word. I ordered a Monster P&P with an internal P&P. I bought, received, and installed it without really knowing wether I would feel or see any changes to be honest. For a stock turbo car, they don't come much more modified that what I already have. I wasn't sure if the great gains seen by lesser modified WRXs would show through or not. After installation, I reset the ECU, reflashed Stage 2 with my Cobb Accessport and drove for 3-4 days. Driving was a mix of place to place and "spirited driving". I am actually more impressed than I thought I would be. Impressions so far: 1. Noise reduction. The stock turbo whistled like crazy inside my TurboXS Stealthback (Stealthbacks are famous for accentuating the turbo whistle). The turbo whistle is decreased by at least half if not more. This is a good thing in my opinion, but may be a "bad thing" for people who enjoy the whistle sound. 2. Quicker spool. The boost needle definately moves quicker and earlier than it used to. 3. Low end torque. Quicker boost equates to more low end torque. I am very happy with my decision at this point. Every time I drive, it feels a little better. This is probably due to the Cobb ECU which is famous for getting better and better in the days following a reset. I intended to wait a week or two for the "best" review based on a longer impression, but I am currently being PM'd to death by people wanting to hear my opinion to help with their decision process! My opinion is this: If you want more power without the additional expense of an aftermarket turbo, this is a great deal! $200 gets you the Monster service if you have a spare, or Deadbolt offers a core exchange for a larger initial investment. If you are interested in more low end torque or quicker spool, this turbo is great. Even on a nicely modded car like mine, I felt what this turbo had to offer, so I think the impression on a more stock car will be even better than mine. Aside from the standard Monster service, I recommend you discuss via PM or email with Deadbolt the possibility of adding clipping or an internal P&P as well. They may be worth the few extra dollars depending on your goals. I am personally very satisfied with the turbo and my buying experience. I would recommend Deadbolt's services to anyone. Stock left, Deadbolt right: Stock left, Deadbolt right: Installed turbo The silver metallic stuff on the Deadbolt turbo is Thermo Tec turbo wrap. My review of it. |

I can't really say for certain now. I am having some boost issues due to the Cobb reflash. I think I finally worked it all out today by using their latest reflash and adjusting the wastegate arm. I believe that for me, full boost is around 3800rpm or so. I have headers, so that takes away from what the average user would see though.
I am twice as happy today with this turbo than on 5/25/04 when I originally put it on!!! Since I am now fully boosting my smile factor is much higher. Much of this can be attributed to more boost, but I am really loving the power my car makes now. |

That Deadbolt P&P looks sexy. Look at now nicely the area around the exhaust turbine is smoothed out, and the intake-outlet is nicely smoothed out as well. The price is right, too!
Now if he starts selling ported/polished IC inlet pipes (combo it with a silicon piece, too!) he will have another winning product on his hands, although I suspect any gains from this piece would be pretty minor but I'm sure that plenty of people would buy it to get the complete package. |

unabomber, can you please give a update to your review. still like it and recommend it. Have you had a chance to dyno it? I am cobb stage 2 too, do you think it is holding back it potential, custom tune might be necessary?
I am interested in quicker spool for auto-x so this seems like a decent option. |

I am still a big fan of this mod. I haven't dyno'd yet as there isn't one local, but hopefully we should have a local one next month. I am VERY interested to see what my wagon puts to the wheels. No custom tune is necessary as Cobb said it will work fine with their reflash. I am maxed out to the max with their stage two to include uppipe, headers, P&P turbo, lightweight pulley, and bigger TMIC. All of these items are "supported", but a few crazy souls such as myself have lumped them all together. Teh wagon runs VERY fine though.
