Default Insurance question: What does uninsured motorist coverage... cover?

Recently there was an accident involving an uninsured motorist. That person was completely at fault. No license, no insurance, rear ended the other person.

The person who's car was hit does have uninsured motorist coverage.

Now my question. What does that cover? Does that mean:

A: Neither party has to pay a dime to cover the costs of the repairs because the insurance company is responsible

B: Guilty party has to pay the others deductible but the repairs are still going to be covered by the insurance or...

C: The uninsured guilty party is going to have to pay for everything and the only person who is taken care of is the person who was hit?

I'm curious because I always had the understanding that uninsured motorist basically had to pay the court fines for driving with license insurance etc but didn't have to pay for anything else (damages)

Let me know your findings or ACCURATE KNOWLEDGE. Please site your information.

D: None of the above

"Uninsured or underinsured motorist (UM) coverage pays for your injuries if you are struck by a hit-and-run driver or by someone who does not have adequate insurance -- either because they have no coverage or because they do not have enough coverage to pay for your injuries. Normally, this type of coverage is limited to bodily injury and does not cover property damage to your vehicle. Vehicle damage would be covered by the collision coverage of your own policy."
