Default 02 engine and ECU w/ Phase 1 4EAT

Hello, I'm thinking about swapping an engine from an 02 WRX into my 97 OBS with the phase 1 4EAT. Will the new ECU work with the older TCU and trans, or will I get error codes etc. It looks like the 02 ECU has an additional input (AT load signal) for the A/T that the 97 doesn't. Can the new ECU do without this input? What has to be done to make the two work together? Thanks for any help.

Is the 02 WRX an auto or manual?

It's coming from a manual 02, but I was planning to get an auto ECU for it.

Short story, no

You'll have to search for the pin outs and make an entirely custom harness for the ecu to tcu, if it will read them or not there is no telling.

If you wanna keep auto, find a complete auto swap kit, otherwise its time to go MT5

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help. That confirms what I was thinking. Now I've also found a 4EAT from an 06 WRX. Does 02 motor/ECU and 06 Trans/TCU sound more like it? I know I'll need to splice the TCU to the ECU, since the MT harness won't have those connections. It seems more likely that the two would communicate. I know the complete swap would be the way to go, but I'm trying to work with what I can find. Maybe adding the turbo to the existing setup would be easier.

bumping this. I dont see why this wouldn't work. The inputs are the same just different wires and connectors. the only struggle is finding which wire does what.

edit:

3 of the 7-8 wires are figured out due to their interaction with the TPS, just a matter of finding the pinouts for the rest.
