Default 00 rs swap question

I have a 2000 rs and want to swap in a turbo motor. I would like to use the stock trans for a little while. I know I need the cross member and an ecu and a wiring harness and obviously a complete longblock. I can get a complete 05 wrx wiring harness for free. my question is, What motor do I need to get and and what ecu? Iam not sure if the wiring harness is the same from 02-05.

does IL even have emissions? or ODII? cause if you dont go jdm its cheaper and beter and since your dropping it into a rs it will be equally a PITA. ive noticed that complete engines /w harness/ecu minus trannies arnt much more that ones without. might as well get one that comes with ecu/harness cause you will probably spend that much on just an ecu.

all WRX harness's and engines are the same from 02-05. ECUs change slightly but nothing that you would notice.

buy whatever you can afford

honestly? post this on RS25.com

Thanks for the responses! I am going to start pricing some things out. IL does have emissions test and being that it is 00 I have to keep it obd2. Plus I like going the usdm route for ease of getting anything for that motor plus engine management.

2000 RS/WRX swap
***SOLD***

Default Il

I recently did a swap in my '00RS ('02 WRX USDM engine). I'd definately do a USDM swap. Keeping the stock tranny is no big deal. I put 30k miles on my swap w/o any problems and I drive it pretty hard. Having an emissions ready car is a must in IL; ask me how I know

If you need some help from someone close by PM me. Good luck nad the best advice I can give is to take your time.

Thank you I may take you up on that offer tverdek. I actually have a friend who swapped his 05 wrx to an sti setup so He has the engine and ecu from the same car and it only has 20k on it. so I may be getting that. plus I have a free 05 wiring harness. This thing should be pretty fun to drive.

If everything I have for the swap is 05, can I use a cobb ap or is the plug under the dash different? I wouldn't think it is different because it's obd2, but you never know.
