I see that Android O (8.0) ota are rolling out for Pixel/nexus 5X/6P and I was thinking about doing a sideload because I want to try out the themeing and new launcher features that the DP versions don't have. Problem is that the posted OTA zip for the 6P is not for Tmobile (or UsCellular and Fi) phones. I'm wondering if there will not be a Android Oreo OS for Tmobile users? And is it the radio software that makes the service provider matter for the OS version? If so, I'd guess that the carrier dev the software is the holdup?

Just installed Oreo. So far they ****ed with the keyboard (again), Google's flavor of Swype still sucks and chrome has crashed twice just posting this

But it does seem significantly faster and dual window/pip is working well.

Wow.. so I can't even ask Google Home to remove Google Home from my shopping list?

Seriously, this is a major deal breaker for me. I spend months training my wife to use Keep on her iPhone to keep our shopping list in sync.. and Google tosses it out the window.

I'm really hoping Apple's new version of Siri is 75% as good as Google Assistant, so I don't have instant remorse buying back into their ecosystem.

I actually ditched my stupid broken 6P (after Google Support screwed me over and prevented me from getting it replaced <for the 5th time?> under warranty) and bought an iPhone 7+ a few months back. iOS is frustrating, sure.. especially notifications and the lack of "Hey Google" functionality, but at least the camera and overall lack of jankiness is worth those downsides. A better Siri will keep me feeling any loss over Google's idiotic app turnover.

Need some quick help: Galaxy S8. Been playing with Substratum, and changed a few things on the phone around.

An update just came through and now when the phone reboots, I get a "System UI has stopped" and I cannot get rid of it.

Tried booting into safe mode, still nothing.

HELP me fix this, please!!!

EDIT: I'm all set now. Just wiped the phone. I'm sure there was a better way, but this was easier.

Yea it's dumb but even in iOS you can make a website a shortcut so it's not too big of a deal. I think there is a way to get it to add it to keep if you ask in a specific manner but it's not worth figuring out since it doesn't want to do it by default.

I have my Harmony remote setup to it too, nice to be able to turn the TV on/off from a different room .

I need to setup multi user, probably do that this weekend. Wonder if it'll let it sync Spotify accounts per the user...

Google wants their hands in every cookie jar just to have a presence, learn from it and move on. They are infamous for starting and abandoning projects and they appear to be doing so at an increasing rate. Honestly, with how everything has gone the last few years, I'm surprised Google Earth/Maps is as spectacular as it is.

I'm sorry if this has already been answered. I can't figure out how to search the closed thread with the right keywords.

I have an LG G6. I need a watch. Does anyone have any experience with the knockoffs? The things I need are kinda basic I think:

1. Text notifications with the ability for at least viewing messages including sms pictures, as well as quick pre-determined responses.
2. Call notifications with the ability to select "answer call"...I always wear bluetooth headphones, and my phone is always in reach but not in hand, so I don't need it to be able answer independently, just tell the phone to answer.
3. Facebook and facebook messenger notifications and twitter notifications with ability to read. No need to respond.
4. Email notifications with the ability to read, and preferably delete.

Any advice is much appreciated.

It's actually almost impressive at how consistent this crap is. Every single version promises better battery and so far, every single version since KitKat did the exact opposite.

Pretty much any smartwatch on the planet does all these things. Hell, my Pebble does all of it except for viewing MMS... btw, there's no such thing as an "SMS picture" unless it looks like this: ( ͡ ͜ʖ ͡)

We ended up finding a ZTE phone for under $200 that met the criteria. It was actually a pretty nice device, the rubbery finish on the back was excellent and the metal trim was well done. We bought 6 of them and are using them to beta test a... thing. One of them is sitting in my office.

And do the cheap watches last with decently easy use? The worst thing mine ever goes through is the occasional 20 mins on an elliptical.

Probably just a JPEG via an app. MMS is a specific protocol with strict limitations, phone number to phone number.

Yes my Gen2 360 can go a full day with about 30% left. I do bunch a **** with it.. I use it for working out but using a HIIT timer. So the screen is always on.

Good news for the Essential Ph-1's camera:
https://www.xda-developers.com/essen...a-quality-fix/

Porting over the Google Camera HDR+ app makes "a night & day difference". I hope this is true. I like the idea of (nearly) stock Android in robust hardware.

The Davlik -> ART switch significantly improved battery performance thanks to far less fetching. The tradeoff was eating up that battery you saved "upgrading apps" if you needed a restart (which was often since most 7.0 updates were janky).

Did you do the OTA? I would recommend just flashing the image and starting fresh, every time. it seriously takes very little time to set up even heavily loaded up phones since Android 6/7, and now that 8 has autofill natively (i still use last pass), its even faster. I log into last pass first, and then it only takes an extra couple seconds on the first launch of each app to get going again.

ALWAYS wipe after a major upgrade. All you are doing is frustrating yourself and delaying the inevitable. My battery life on my XL has never been better. I would say I even got a decent size boost of battery life on Oreo.

Also Oreo made my GF's 5x like a brand new phone, it got a decent boost in performance and battery life as well. Again, wiped (and flashed image, not OTA).

Anyways..

You say watch <inter show> from Netflix to TV. It'll play the most recent episodes/season you're watching.
-You can say pause/play
- FF or Rewind <say how many seconds>
- Next episode

You can use it a cooking timer.

You can sync multiple G-Home as a music speaker

Controlling Philips Hue / Nest

You can make call to anyone in Canada & US for free. Your number will show Private and you can't receive incoming calls from it.

You can check to see what's the traffic like going to <enter location>

It supports multi user, so you can have your calendar and your SO's calendar and when you ask what's in your agenda today, it will recognize your voice and just give your agenda.

You can use it as an alarm clock but the sound is ****ing annoying. I like softer alarm sounds.

You can play games. "Hey Google, Play games"

FYI, if you're looking to buy multiple google home, wait until they release 3rd party speaks with Google assistant. I personally have 2 Ghomes and it's pretty good so far.
Thanks, I saved all these tips.

omg I may lose my mind. Am I really just hard to please? My Pixel XL was great, then I got Oreo, battery went to ****. Yesterday I did a factory reset. Took the phone off my charger around 7:15am, I've used it sparingly today, only 45 minutes of screen-on time, and at 3:30, it was down to 35% battery.

I just reached out to support through the phone itself and they want to issue me a new device. I went through 3 replacement 6Ps before just giving up and buying this Pixel. Now I'm all WTF mate. I still dislike the iPhones, so that's not an option and I'll never buy another Samsung device in my lifetime, looks like I'm up **** creek here

Perhaps I go download the factory image for the last version of Nougat and just live with that for a while and hope for the best.

Somehow my Mom kills phones- her last phone was a Moto E 2016, which survived <2 years before having meltdowns about the CPU overheating. Since I'm Mom's Tech Support, and have to field all calls from her, I got tired and picked up a Amazon Moto E4 Plus. It's fast for a sub-flagship phone, has a massive battery and is QuickCharge compatible. I managed to muffle most of the Amazon stuff on it too, which is a bonus. Wonder how long this one will last before it dies?

That's clearly a software issue if you installed Oreo and it night and day **** the bed. This is why no matter how many times skaffles and other people hype up "fastest updates, pure Android, so Google, no need to unlock/root this Nexus/Pixel", I say "Nah, brah". Bootloader will be unlocked first thing on all phones. That doesn't mean we are staying up in bed until 3am installing Xposed modules, killing rogue random processes with unknown consequences or whatever. I don't have time for that anymore, either. It just means that sometimes even the "it just works" devices don't. And when they don't, you're mailing your phone back and forth repeatedly and ready to rip your hair out dealing with customer service when you could just flash a ROM and be done with it. I know, you shouldn't have to do that, either, but clearly it's often a viable solution.

On the topic of stock Android, this is shaping up nicely:

https://www.androidheadlines.com/201...e-sept-11.html

Although I have no interest in another 5.5" phone, Xiaomi hardware with stock Android software would be delightful.

Before you send it back to them, I recommend taking an hour or so and trying either a fresh install from a factory image or if you are feeling a bit more adventurous , a different rom.

Honestly, OTAs sometimes work ok but I have seen some crap that happens from OTA that gets fixed when doing fresh install (just dealt with same thing)
