Default Places to drive in CT (or further)

Hello all:
Okay, so I got my car in June, and I have mainly kept in on legal roads to this point. The only experience I have with driving off roads is from high school when we used to take or 4X4's into the woods and break things. So, I don't know if this has been covered already, but I couldn't find anything. I want to get involved with rallyX or autoX, but I don't know where to start. Even non-sanctioned "There is this great place in X-town" driving works for me. Any suggestions of how to get started. I tried to read up on all the SCCA stuff. Boy it's damn confusing. I live in southern CT, but am willing to drive. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

I think in Waterbury they will have their last auto-x of the season. But also keep a look out for Cart and their winter cross.

The roads up at the People's State Forest in Pleasant Valley were a lot of fun, but you'll want to watch out -- even WRX ground clearance isn't enough to give you a good scare, or even lose a few pieces of your undercarriage.

Well, if you take them at 40+mph, anyway.
