So you figure even with the 2 PIAA 520s and the 2 PIAA 510s and my highbeams I'm not going to be able to see good enough for the night stages? I guess I could look at HIDs but if I'm going that route I may just get complete HID kits and give the PIAAs back to my buddy.

Ya I'm feeling like I should be okay. I'm going to be rolling on a brand new set of Hakka 7 studded tires... and I'm no stranger to snow, ice and night driving. Between the car, the lights and the tires this is more prepared than I've ever been.

Oh boy. Exciting, but I won't be able to come... My autosports budget won't allow it. Unless somebody can help me find a sponsor...
Let me know if anybody needs help getting geared up or needs team graphics. -Tim |

I hear ya
Apparently my new taste for burning rubber made me forget I have rent and bills. With hotels, gas, and food, rally is expensive. Worth every penny, but it is getting cold, I cannot sleep in my Subaru. |

I wish I read about this sooner! I would love to get in on this!
I just mounted PA4 snow tires on my STi, but other than that, my car is bone stock. no auxiliary laighting. Do you guys think a stock car could participate? Any tips on preaparations would be greatly appreciated |

Sideways .. a stock sti will do great as long as you have winter tires .. As a first event you will do fine . just take it easy and learn as you go . It takes an event or 2 to get the hang of it ... After a couple events when you want to do better . then look at lights .. skid pans are not usually a big thing as all the roads are ones that are plowed so there are no big rocks in the middle of the road .. I would suggest you borrow or buy a gps and use that for keeping you on average speed which is where all the points come from . The novice meeting on Friday nite will help as well . If you have any question just ask .

Your car will do just fine,
i did couple of tsd's on bone stock sti and every one else drives stock cars there the only "mods" are aux lights and winter tires =o) that's all You need well, You'll need a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher You can buy from wallmart and that's it! ...22 entries so far Quote:

I'm a rookie myself... you should just come out and enjoy the drive, and I'm sure we are all going to learn lots. I put on some extra lights but that's just cuz my buddy hooked me up. The way I see it if you are prepared to drive in winter conditions at night then you are prepared for this. There's nobody forcing you to drive beyond your ability or comfort level... except the squirrels lol |

Thanks guys! I went to the Rally BC monthly meeting which happened to be held tonight. Met about a dozen great people, and they gave kind of a crash course on what to expect and what was required. Really great group of people. The navigators seem like they have the most work by far! The math can get pretty confusing, good thing I'll be driving :P
I will definitely be registering with Dennis I'm just deliberating on whether or not I should get skid plates/Aux lights. I mean, I definitely should, its just a matter of if I can get them to show up on time. I am leaning towards Primitive or rally innovations. Plenty more research to do, and noooo time! Crunch time! |

yes, the navigator is the one who does most of work there! =o)
if You have time, get a pair of aux lights and don't bother with skid plate for now roads will be smooth, no hard rocks sticking out as for lights make sure driving ones come on with hi-beams while fog lights can be turned on independently though if Your car has hid lights it should be enough ...skid plate is easy diy and will cost you about $100 cut to the size and bent ask me how when we meet in Cache Creek |

as for aux lights, they're not really needed if the night stages are snow (everything lights up/glows for miles around) but on gravel they're nice. My first few TSD didnt have aux lights. but I did install my lights last night. I have 2 Hella 700FF converted to HID, and then two cheapo lights aimed for cornering. It's pretty blinding. |

Totem must be the exception. T-bird and Trail of the Gnu were not on winter maintained roads. Lol I feel like I have been at different events than you guys or something. I have seen some gnarly roads on TSD's I kinda feel like a pansy as I have been full on scared at moments..... But that Is why I always return....To eat the fear ohm nom nom. I am going to speak with my local sponsors. I do not think I can sit this one out and stay somewhat sane. |

Fresh windhield being installed tomorrow morning :-D
The RallyBC members I spoke with last night definitely reccomended a skid plate. I may just fabricate one tomorrow at work. They don't look especially complicated. Does anybody know where I might find a template or tdinentional specs online? They also said that there is usually plenty of snow, and you cant see potential bigass rocks when everything is covered in a blanket of white stuff... There is no guarantee, so I figure its cheap insurance :-) |

So jealous , I wish I could do this. Just can't the time away from work.
I just wanted to also say for any of the people who are doing a TSD for the first time . If you are entering in the novice or 'seat of pants' classes & haven't got a Centwatch yet for your timing that there is a free app for the iPhone that works excellent . Just search Centwatch in the App Store. Myself & a few other newbies used it during the Alcan 5000 this past winter is worked great. Just remember your car charger. |

I'm sure the skidplates and lights etc. would be helpful but I hope it doesn't discourage people from just coming out and going for it. Again I'm a total rookie but I'm pretty sure a stock STI, WRX or any AWD Subaru can handle most of the roads we're going on. If you go OFF the road, well that's different. And yes I guess there can be a huge rock on the road under the snow but that could happen anywhere in the snow.... just sayin.

Last Feb was my first ever TSD rally at Thunderbird and I took my car with 50% left snow tires and running on lowered coilovers. No auxiliary lights and we had a blast.
