I have an ASR turbo - I need to disable it for a little while.

I'm thinking there is no way to "bypass" it. You'll have to probably remove the up pipe, downpipe, and replace it with the factory exhaust manifold. And probably take the turbo and intercooler out as well.
I'm not 100% sure though, seeing as how I'm just learning about turbocharging. |

Just go straight from the filter to the throttle body. The turbo will still spin, but not produce boost going into the engine.

Ok. another question:
if I block the vacum line that goes to westgate (I'm not sure what the thing is called) will that stop turbo from activating? |

It's late and I'm not thinking quite clearly but I think if you block the vac line going to the wastegate the turbo will be constantly on meaning MAD overboost at high RPMs. Depending on the type of wastegate you could also just open the thing so all exhaust is bypassed. Otherwise get some silicone ducting and run it directly between the filter and the TB. You'll notice a little loss of performance (less than the NA even) because of the turbo slowing air going into the engine if you open the wastegate. Not a big deal though.

If you block off the hose to the waste gate it will try to get the turbo to full boost because the waste gate is not bypassing the exhaust to the turbo, this might over heat the turbo. But I think even if you disconnect.

I think the only way is to get the waste gate open by removing the spring and the valve in there or some how apply pressure to that line and make it hold in there. |

Why would you want to do this?
That is like asking, "how do I make the toilet not flush after using it..." |

Well, I might have to remove my system every two years for emission testing. The people who does the driving here are crazy.. I'm sure they'll blow up my car with the turbo in, or I might not even pass the test.

well, you could shut the car off...that disables it!
Short of removing it fromt he system, there is no way to disbale the turbo, unless you put in a super low spring to your wastegate, and run it at the lowest possible boost. What type of emissions testing do they have in Canada...dyno? road use? |

I need to take the turbo off (eventualy) 'cause there is some work that will need to get done on my trany, but with the turbo there they are not allowed to touch it.
but I couldn't take it off my self ('cause the bolt are so hard) so I want to go to have some shop just loosen them up for me. problem is that there are oil lines running to the turbo, wich I need to block, so idealy I wanted to: disable it block oil lines remove it |

what about if he took his BOV off and had an intake leak would that work? put a breather ilter on over where it used to be and you should be set.
Unless you have a MAF then just run a tube to the front of the turbo w/ no BOV. Brad |

is it an external wastegate or an interal actuator?
cause if its an actuator you can un hook the wastegate spring from the little flap that opens up and it will alwasy bypass it.. maybe causing a LITTLE boost but not much. or if its a external wastegate try just taking the spring out. Brad |

Thanx Alv.
I will do that. damn. taking off the turbo is a pain in the butt. + I figured out why I have/had some problems with it. the up pipe is cracked. anyways, trany work within next few weeks and back to puting it back together. BTW anyone knows if you can get your smog inspect. done earlyer then you have to? it would be so convinient for me. |

I don't see why you can't get it done at any time. After all its your $$$. I am sure it will only be good for the year after the actual test or whatever interval your emissions testing is at, not one year form the date you had to get it done
