So, bump..but in case anyone was wondering: the piston boots (at least in the front, don't remember the rear) actually have a ring of metal inside the rubber for the large side (piston bore, small side is piston lip). I'm sure that ups the cost just a wee bit in comparison to run of the mill rubber boots you commonly find on sliding calipers.

Bump for problems.

I'm in the middle of rebuilding my Brembos and ran into an issue. The 4th piston in my one of my fronts simply would not go back in, and neither would 3 of the 4 in the other front caliper. I've cleaned and recleaned the pistons and bores, soaked the seals, and lubed bores/pistons. The bleeders are off and there's no residual fluid to keep them pressurized.

What the hell am I doing wrong? I was feeling the bores with the seals in place and it seems like there's a slight lip at the top (inboard?) of the seal. If I had to guess I think the pistons are catching on the top of the seal but I have no idea why.

The two leading pistons are the same size right? And the two trailing pistons are identical as well? I'm at wits end and about to grab a c-clamp to get this done. I feel stupid.

Does anyone by chance no what size the bleeders are on the front caliper? The bleeder is stripped out and the local auto parts store does not have the correct size bleeder. I called summit but they dont know if the one they have is for the brembo kit or if its just for the wrx brakes. I guess it might b helpful i have a 2004 sti. Calipers look exactly like the ones being rebuilt in this post.

I am pretty much running into the same problem. I bought the centric rebuild kit. I was able to get all the smaller pistons back in easily by just pushing them in with my hands but none of the bigger pistons go back in with the new seals. When I put the old seals back in the pistons went in easily but when I use the new seals they refuse to go in. Has anyone else had a problem with the centric kit? I bought another kit from oriely auto parts dont remember who the manufacturer of the kit is but i had the same exact problem. I think I will have to order the OEM kit from the dealer but was hoping to get some input before I spend $80 for a few pieces of rubber.

Bleeder for the calipers is M10x1.0x30

If the seals aren't going in, make sure they are flush with the piston, use a good amount of brake fluid and apply equal force as you are pushing them in and they will go in; you are just pushing crocked on it (not trying to be insulting but I ran into the same issue).

The centric kit for the fronts does not work. the seal for the small piston fits fine but the seal for the larger piston is too big and they will not go in. I ordered the centric kit and no matter what I did I could not get the piston to go back in. Gave up and bought the OEM brembo rebuild kit from the dealer and they went right in on the first try.

I didn't have any issue fitting the larger seal with the Centrics...shrug...maybe they made a bad batch.

Yeah that may be what happened. The centric kit only costs like $15 so someone else should try and verify.

I'm unable to fit 1 of the small piston's dust boot on each caliper. The piston is all the way in but the dust boot won't just pop in. Something I'm doing wrong ?

Try fitting the dust boot over the piston first, then push the piston in so that its slightly still out of the caliper, fit boot into the caliper, then push the piston all the way in. Careful as you can easily rip the boot.

glad this thread is here! I have a leaky rear pass. side Brembo caliper. Seems like it is coming from the seals. I'm going to try the rear re-build.

Question on the leak I have goin on:

-These were rear calipers I got that were powder-coated then rebuilt with new seals.
-Had them stored carefully in a box for quite some time (9-ish months) with no fluid in them. (maybe the seals dried up during this time?)
-Then installed them and they ran great for ~4 months great braking performance NO leaks.
-Then I noticed my rear pass. wheel was "wet" inside during a dry week with NO puddles. Looked like brake fluid.
-Took the wheel off, cleaned everything with bio-degreaser, rinsed, and re-installed wheel and let it sit over night.
-In the morning I found that brake fluid seemed to be slowly leaking from behind the outer brake pad.
-Not coming from the bleeders.
-Not coming from the brake line.

Is this clearly indicative of bad seals? Could the piston crack? I really hope its not from inside the caliper body...

I have not raced the car or heated the brakes up significantly.

Anybody ever have anything similar?
Any input/ideas would be great.

Thanks guys!

If it's not coming from the banjo bolt nor the bleeder, then most likely its coming from one or both of the piston seals. This could be due to a misalignment or improper seating of the seal. You should take it apart again, inspect, and rebuild with new seals.

I took the piston out, and tried to put the seal in by itself, but the seal won't even "clip" in like the otheres, seems like it's too big for the hole ? I have 2 of these like that. All the other fit fine.

wrong size dust boot ?

I broke down my front and rear Brembos thanks to this thread. Sent them out for powder coat and will be ordering a new re-seal kit this week. Can't wait to get everything back and put them together. Thanks Tut4u2!

The Centric rebuild kit DID NOT work for me. I started with the front and could not get the pistons in, so I did not continue further and got OEM Brembo kits.

WiBal on the iPhone is way ****ed up. They are WAYYYYY more purple than the pic depicts.
