Default Trying to improve satellite reception: 13 WRX

I've been unhappy with my satellite reception for a while. It used to be only worse in the summer with leaves on the trees. It's now way worse all the time, cutting out for seemingly no reason even with bare trees in the winter. After starting to look into the issue, it seems it's a common problem with Subaru (my friend's Hyundai has great reception all the time).

I have a 2013 WRX Premium with navigation and the Fujitsu ten audio unit.

My research so far tells me that it's not an antenna issue, but a receiver issue- Subaru just used weak receivers I guess.

Has anyone been successful with improving their reception? Is there a way to use an aftermarket satellite receiver with a factory radio, almost like a signal booster?

Any ideas or help is appreciated!
