Talking REASSESSMENT of Current SSC Status and Club Situation-PLEASE READ, We need Action!

Reassessment of Current Southeastern Subaru Club and Preliminary Charter:

First I want to readdress the issue of opening the lines of communicable information in order to allow ALL I-club.com members to campaign for nominations, vote for and elect South East Region officers to the SSC board.

This entire renewing process of the SSC will require patience and devotion of time from all willing participants of I-club.com and also non-affiliated member. We do want to market to ALL Subaru owners with interest. I encourage EVERYONE who spots anyone with a Subaru who may be a prospective or potential member material to leave a note on their car, (we talked about making up cards for you guys to leave) or notify them in some way and let them know what we are about.

If you are willing to participate in a fully operational and organized Subaru owner’s club, this thread will be of interest and pertain to you.

The Following are ideas that have been expressed in previous threads and have been brought to my attention for group discussion and complete agreement. We realize that if we do not come to a full agreement on some issues and the operation of the club as a complete unit, we are failing to represent in full all members inside and outside of the I-club.com family.

Following this message I will post what I propose, and invite all other’s interest to post replies in a separate thread on how you personally feel we should attack these issues at hand.

Listed in no particular order of importance:

1. Dealership Involvement
a. Every Subaru owning participant should contact their local dealership, it’s affiliates, other dealerships, and performance part retailers in their residing area to request involvement and encourage support in helping us organize charity events; have use of their facilities for club meetings and solicit what ever help they may offer to provide.
b. Some of you already are involved in doing so and are apart of very active prominent Subaru Dealerships (Troncalli, Mastro, Prestige, Kelly…etc)
c. We should collaborate on a list of contacts at these places in order to supplement the club. Sales personnel names, dealership address and phone number, and so forth.
2. Local Chapter Area Representatives
a. In order to represent all facets of views from members, area reps are needed at meetings in order to insure all areas of the SE Regions needs are being met and concerns are being voiced and heard.
3. Need Officers From Each State
a. We do need officers that are elected to be from different states
4. Campaign For Nominees
a. We need to discuss how to have an online voting forum and how do we go about it in order to insure proper vote registering, reporting and tracking? Validity is key here.
b. It would be possibly in best interest and fairness of everyone if we allow ourselves one full week AT LEAST for nominations, and to give us time to verify with those parties nominated that they accept the nomination.
5. Draft Club Charter
a. Calling of Supporting Members Based on Charter
6. Monthly Meetings
a. Some ideas: Schedule meetings in areas of predominant number of Subaru owners and around functions, also so that we may meet at those events to make best use of our time. We could cover material we need to address or discuss at that time.
7. Be able to have online access (when facility can accommodate) during meetings so information can be posted in real time for feedback from members not attending meeting.
8. Readdress Mission Statement:
a. What are we about, what do we Want to be about???
b. Here is the current Mission Statement of the SSC
i. “It is the mission of the Southeastern Subaru Club (SSC) to become and sustain
a welcome and accepting environment that fosters the development and exchange
of information that promotes the appeal of, and dedication to, the Subaru
automobile. As an increasingly diverse community with differing beliefs yet
shared values, we will meet together on a regular basis to strengthen and
promote the Club. We will be loyal and dedicated to each and all members of
the Club, and do whatever is in our power to assist other members in any way
possible. We will display ourselves and our Club to the community at large
as one, which does not promote violence or drug use, but rather one that
promotes positive goals and respect for others. We foster an ethical basis
for living, celebrate in life's diversity, and will not discriminate based on
sex, race, age, religion, or physical handicap.”
c. We need to agree if we should re-vote on the statement and see if it reflects the views of all who wish to participate and that all agree to adhere to be a reflection of the statement as an organized united club. We also want to represent the Subaru brand in a positive manner as a club, in order to increase corporate sponsorship from SOA.

9. Dues??? How will we collect them and when should we start incorporating this into our planned activities. How much? Should we have a separate membership due, and an initial registration fee to cover items like shirts and stickers?
a. ALSO: this may be in the future for discussion relating to dues
i. Will we be listed as an “Organization” or will we be “Incorporated”
1. If we are incorporated we’ll need Articles of Incorporation and a Tax ID #.
2. If we are an Organization, we’ll need Articles of Organization and a Tax ID #.

ii. This would all affect our account if we so choose to have to deposit our dues and fees into.

10. Agree on a logo.

A basic reminder that the original intended SSC was formed to be contingent upon:
The SSC in no way, shape or form replaces any I-club.com club, not “I-club.com” itself. The SSC is a total and separate entity from I-club.com though it probably for now will consist mainly of I-club members. As you know, I-club is the best (I’ve ever seen) website and content filled forums for the majority of us to communicate through. Thus why it was used to contact as many Subaru owners possible. No major dealership controls us. We control ourselves and have to work hard to progress the club.

On a personal note:

I know this is a lot of information for us all to digest right now, I welcome the idea you take the time to read this thoroughly and take time before posting any replies. Like maybe a few days to a week. It might even be better, in order not to have so much info to read in one thread, that all questions, comments, or replies be e-mailed to myself and maybe the I-club moderators. Then maybe we could compile everything neatly and form it together again so it’s easier for all to read and be informed of. Thus why I have sort of taken so long to type this when I thought I could do it last night. I don’t know really…this process of re-doing is going to take some time in order for all our voices to be heard and decisions made as a unified and agreed group to have a really strong Subaru club for this Region.

Any brief comments are welcome to be posted in this thread. I just don’t want to overwhelm the board with too many replies. And I’m also sure I may have forgotten some of your ideas that were posted, if so please post those in here. I went from as many of my notes that I had printed from all the forums in which concerns were voiced regarding the club.

If you would like you can email me at [email protected]

Take at least until June 12th to get together and discuss what we all need to do from here. Then at that time we could open the board for nominating officers and such. But first we need to agree on how we are going to do it. Then we’ll decide on when, (if you so choose to change those holding offices), and we do need to add Reps from all the areas. Some how if we could, I like the idea of have an Officer from each state, as well as a general representative.

We’ll figure out titles and such later…

Okay…Let’s do this!

Kind Regards ,
Amanda Haines

and BTW...sorry about the format, the outline was easier to copy and paste, and I didn't have time here at work to go back and move all the indented items. but there are 10 listed, so all the "a's" and "i's" following numbers go underneath that item.

Sorry!

It is going to take a while to read all of that! LOL! But...while we are on the subject and since I am a newbie here, I volunteer to take the point and be the club "Reconnaisance Guy". I will find things! Law enforcement hideouts on the interstate, good roads to drive with nobody on them, and whatever else we need.

I know it's a lot to ingest folks, but I am so excited to finally have met people with similar interests that I'm hoping all of you can bring me abreast on the whole "scene" and I would actually like to experience what most of you have been doing for a long time. All of you have so much you can teach me and inform me on. Like the autocross I went to this past Sunday I never would have known about until Jason (2.5GTL) told me of it. I feel so alone here in Nashville and have felt that way since I bought my car 2 years ago <insert sound of worlds smallest violin playing>. But like I have said before, I'm not here to steal anyone's thunder, or embark on some hostile take over. heh heh heh...I want to be a part of a totally organized Subaru club. With everyone's combined talents and resources, we could do so many freakin' awesome things you know???

Take time to really think about it and we'll come back on this in one week.

I know a lot of toes got stepped on (unintentionally) the first time. So now JasonRan and I wanted to be able to back track and see everyone gets heard and we want to see everyone happy who wants to participate in the club. Hopes this makes sense???

Hello Amanada and SSC members,

We're in the process of getting organized as a club in Arizona as well. We're currently discussing our mission and objectives in the AZIC forum. I'd like to invite you to drop by and take a look at them. Perhaps they will be of some help to you and your club as you review your own charter. I've read through your mission statement above and I feel that you may be trying to cover a bit too much ground and detail in what really needs to be a single statement of purpose (sometimes a hard thing to come up with). Not that I'm suggesting that you adopt ours. Your objectives, although similar in many ways, seem to be slightly different then ours. (We are basically either tuning enthusiasts or driving enthusiasts or some combination of both.)

Which brings me to my second reason for posting here. We, like yourselves, plan to be an independent and self governing club. However, I think it's fairly obvious that we have similar goals and origins. Thus, we should probably consider some sort of association between our clubs. Defining exactly what that association is may have to wait until each club is more fully developed. I am posting here mostly just to open the dialog between our groups. We should at least share ideas.

Yeah, guys, I just Pm'd Red-Imp. If you have not checked them out you should. I have checked them out before. We need to talk with others in other regions and see what works for them as well. If some of you already have, which I don't doubt, you should post your findings.

I'm glad he posted in here Nice to have outside council!

Damn Amanda… not only are you pretty … your smart too… .

This is pretty much what we discussed the first time around…
I like the local rep idea and real time cyber meets as well.

What I think AZ and SoCal are missing is what we have idientified… the larger and more diverse majority of Subaru owners. We are trying to create an organization to rival that of any BMW or Chevy owner’s group.
In this we plan on ascending beyond the tuner community to access all aspects of Subaru owners diversity… which I greatly believe to be above and beyond that of most other makes…

To give you an idea of the areas we want to target:
Subaru supported the Beech Hill Climb
Cherokee Trails
Ocoee Kayak competition
Has a strategic partnership with International Mountain Biking Assoc.
Here in ATL they have a couple of Outbacks decked out in Atlanta Fitness Magazine wraparound decals
The long association with the US Ski Team

How many of you are involved in those areas besides the tuning aspect and autoX?

These are the other owners we need to be successful, not forgetting Joe and Mary Average who just like having a Subaru and don’t do more than haul the kids to soccer, band, and lug groceries and Spot to the vet. This is by far the largest segement, in my mind, that is being overlooked/ignored. We need to create an organization that will appeal to them as well.

Please feel free to comment!

Just my $.02.

I don't feel that I overlook or ignore them. These people make up half the population of Boone! I would love to get them involved. I think if you ask some of the others, especially Jerry, they will tell you that I wanted these people involved just as much as I wanted the young "tuning" people involved. There are not enough of us, the "tuning" crowd in the southeast to support a club. And if we really want SOA backing, we will have to support all of their consumers.

oh i agree with Pleides... i don't mean to say that "we" ignore/overlook (bad word choice ). it just appears that right now the focus should be
1. formation/mission
2. inclusion/promotion
3. agenda/action

and my brain hurts now.... i can't think anymore... coffee wearing off.... must... get... latte...

I agree wholeheartedly with the "inclusion" theme. I see other Subaru owners allthe time when I go Mtn biking and camping. A way to inform them about the club would be great. I think some sort of invitation card will be really good. But we need a cohesive website or something to send them to for more information.

Pleiades is correct about the crazy Scooby population around here. we have so many running around it isn't funny. The hard part is getting most of the drivers to acknowledge you. It would be a lot easier if we make cards up, like someone suggested, to leave on windshields. At least we can get our name out that way and hopefully spark some interest.

Pleiades... does your company do business cards also? If so, is there anyway you could hook us up on a deal?

Later,
Jason

Fellow Suby Enthusiasts,

Okay, now that I am back in town and can check out the board, I am pleased with what I read here. I think that we are getting on the right track here with everything. Again my hand is raised in an offer to do anything I can to help with this and move it forward.
I do think that the dues should accompany a window sticker or something of that nature. People are a little strange sometimes, and if they see that they are getting a little something it usually makes these things alright. I also believe that the fees should be relatively small.
I know that I have a bit more to say on some of these matters, but I have only a couple of hours of sleep over the last two nights, so I am a little more foggy than usual. Yes, I know that is hard to belive but it is true. I will be around though and as normal voice my opinions.

Okay, back to the top.

We need some input:

Which should we do first (or simultaneously)

Do you guys want to go ahead and have Turk setup the voting for the logo? He mentioned making a contest out of it.

Here's an idea:
"You think I should go ahead and get this SSC logo thing resolved. I was thinking of making a contest to see who can design our logo. Give everyone 2 weeks or so to design one. And at the end I'll display them and we can all vote. And the winner get their logo to represent the SSC and the New SSC website I'm working on. What do you think? As far as how the contest should be done I was thinking something along the lines of : "SSC Logo!! - Logo Contest!!! - The SSC needs a logo. If you think you can make one worthy enough for the Southeast submit it to [email protected] with "logo contest" in the subject as well as your I-Club SN and real name in the body. All entries must include "SSC" in the logo and it must be universally adaptable. It must be able to be shrunk w/o distortion, be simple enough for T-shirts and other small objects. This means no fancy colors or effects. Other things that you may want to include is the SSC's url "www.southeastsubaruclub.com" or picture that represents all subarus not just a specific model!"

-Bora/Turk

"Well we can ask everyone which they rather vote on first but at the same time we can get the two week logo design thing started and while that is going on we can carry out the other vote."

-Bora/Turk

____________________________________

Everyone let me know, Most of us do agree we need to settle the "Logo Issue" and move forward. I think it would be great to cover both voting issues at the same time.

I like the voting booth-Xeno posted, and Turk also mentioned something else to me on the phone.

Let's figure out how we WILL vote, then we'll start setting up voting for offices and the logo.

Our next mission : Mission Statement! (or what ever you guys want to talk about next..doesn't matter--it's your club!!!).

Then I would like to coordinate some charity events (I want to do this once we have t-shirts and stickers, so that we'll be noticeable). I thought at first this would be more difficult seeing that so many of us are spread out, but then I thought, you know, the fact that we are more spread out only means we can cover more ground. We could even pull off 5 volunteer/charity events in one weekend. Or in one month. We'll have to get together soon as much as a group for another meeting and discuss this further. We'll decide on when, where, and what not, after re-voting of officers, that way we can pick a place mostly everyone can go to, and that all the area reps will be able to attend so you state is represented properly this time.

Kind Regards,
Amanda Haines

i think a logo competition is a good idea.. give ourselves a recognisable identity..

as for the other voting.. how ever we do it.. it needs to be done in two parts.. nominations.. (and confirmation of nominations) and then voting..

could we have someone post a list of the positions we are voting on ?.. I am assuming there will be the regular offices (what ever they may be) and then regional reps to form a mini council..

I think that the logo is a very good priority.
After that we should probably decide on offices and state representatives and how we want to set it all up.
