whiney little girls.

those of us that are too low to have fender liners aren't driving in gravel. those of us that are too low to have fender liners also have to tuck the harness up into the fender.

and "rocks will get kicked up in there and break wires" is a crock of ****. 4 years with no liners on this car, and 0 problems.

I've replaced my driver side a month ago because the winter and destroyed it and that being it was almost 6 years old... I should have replaced the passenger side as well, but I will do that once I do my timing belt install since I will be working on the car.

I can't imagine taking them off and riding, not only would **** get extremely dirty and crappy, i've seen cars with no fender liner and it looks like ass... saw a truck the other day with a body kit and it just looked horrible, almost like **** was falling apart..lol

Time to take a dump!

I had some pretty aggravating/embarassing moments with fender liners. Im pretty low but on stock wheels/tire sizes (06 sti). I was turning a tight corner in a parking garage that dipped down at the same time. Drivers side ripped off by the tire.. dragging on the streets of boston. Did my best to secure it up till i got home. A little while later the passenger side ripped out too.

What i did was basically cut them in half so the tire has no chance to hit it. Poked a hole in the top and zip tied it up. Electrical taped any wires and zip tied them out of the way.

For those of you in a 4 season state, I really recommend running liners if you drive your car in the winter for obvious reasons.. salt, snow, grime..

Something I dont like that people have mentioned is the intake issue. The stock airbox is pressed next to a hole in the fender for air.. but the tire is right there. So in deep puddles the water could get pushed into the airbox. Not sure if having a short ram would fix this issue. Would it be wise to block up that hole in the fender? Im thinking it could restrict a lot of airflow.

Not sure if the STi is somehow different, but on 04 WRX the front portion of the front fender moves quite a bit (in & out if that makes sense) w/o the 2 fasteners attached....you probably dont notice cause ur always driving, ha. The liners actually tie it all in more securely.

Piss poor design if u ask me

So for those of you that drive in the winter with a stock airbox.. does snow get pushed into the airbox? theres a hole in the inner fender right near the tire that goes right into it. Or does the fender plastic block that? Im worried right now because im low with no plastic, and already almost hydrolocked my motor once in a heavy rain storm this year.

just bought a pair of new fender liners.. I realized my car was bogging down in the rain and could clearly see water in the engine bay going straight from the wheel well into the intake from the fender liner being absent.

Default How many people take off their fender liners?

My front driver side fender liner on my 08 2.5i is shredded in front of the wheel, dont even remember how it happened and I also do not have that undercarriage plastic guard. Personally I’ve had 0 problems with it but I mean, that’s probably because I still have the entire fender liners in general, it’s just partially torn off on the front driver side. Deep puddles of water could cause problems with the intake I’ve heard, if you have no liners, but where I live we don’t ever get flooded badly when it rains so I wouldn’t imagine it being an issue to people around here. One guy I know has an extremely lowered 11-14ish Wrx and I don’t think he has front fender liners. Strange because he already bottomed out like a month after getting it and tore off the front bumper and cracked a rim. Surprised there wasn’t more damage consider he’s running almost no ground clearance with no liners

I’ve driven two winters in my 08 Impreza and so far I haven’t had any issues with snow or rainwater being pushed into the stock airbox. Then again, I’m not lowered so I can’t fully relate to that. Although I wouldn’t imagine it’s a big issue unless you’re extremely low

I hate to replace these like...once a year. Something hooks or bends the plastic, unclips, and then...crap!

Is there a better option? Stronger material, better fitment, different clips...?

To try stuff, I'm thinking of replacing the aero-flaps with rubber (Rhinolip) type. This because those flaps get stuck on grass or weeds and pulls the liner out, then...crap!

I also thought of using rubber grommets instead of clips in some places. For example, there's a small plastic bracket that holds the liner to the lower part of the bumber. I don't understand why that piece, a mistake correction or made to fit other model, it doesn't make sense. I've used small screws and it's better, but screws eat plastic away. So, a rubber grommet is a stronger connector and still flexible enough to hold in small bumps or moving over weeds or tall grass.

I'll measure the holes and eBay has a lot of sizes.

My passenger fender liner on my 2012 wrx ripped off and the driver side is slowly falling apart. Same thing is happening with my brothers 2014. I'm pretty sure its just a common issue and not worth the time to buy new ones.

Default fender liners

I have a 1997 Impreza outback sport and I've had them off for 3 years. No quarter panel rust

I would say its probably not a huge deal to be without a fender liner for a short while. They are there to protect the sheet metal and other components from road debris. For instance if a rock gets shot up from your tire the plastic liner with deflect it and you'll be on your way. But without that liner that rock could strike the metal and chip away any coating. Over time this effect adds up and conjunction with road salt your sheet metal will rust through much faster than if you had a fender liner.

I would say replace it unless you dont drive the car in the winter or its already rusted through.
