This. I'm related to a therapist who works in a community where you're expected to drive a bmw, audi, or the like when you turn 16, and only the losers bike or take the bus. He told me of a messed up kid who wasn't talking to his parents because the expedition (long time ago) they got him for his birthday wasn't the eddie baur eddition. F'n baby with no sense of reality.

Congrats to all of you that worked for the money you used to buy your cars, your 1k POS is way more valuable than anyone's b-day pressent from mom and dad.

having a crazy modded wrx or sti is a stretch but to me a modded wrx is an sti. with the money i would have spent modding an wrx i rather buy an sti and keep it stock.

I have been around long enough to realize that kids who are handed everything in life grow up to be unable to know the worth of a dollar and hard labor.

<---Started buying his own school clothes and groceries at 14.

Someone who is given a nice car (regardless of what it is) in high school in no way signifies that they were handed everything in life. Everyone on here has their own story, regardless of whether they were given a brand new car, or slaved away for a few years to buy it; don't be so bitter.

Even though there lies some truth behind your statement, the way I see it is if a kid gets a nice car in high school then good for him.

Now if the kid turns into a snobby SOB (which doesn't always happen mind you) then by all means flame on

Edit:
Even though I'm not in high school, I just felt obligated to chime in.
No I did not buy my car on my own completely, but I have been working since a very young age. the story of my car(s) is a separate thread in itself.

my brother was raised the same way I was and he works harder than anyone I know. He is now top of his class and he's on his way to being a neurosurgeon.

Stop making stupid generalizations like you know anything.

I'm 19 and drive and STI. I make my car payments, gas, insurance and maintenance.

I had an 04 WRX before my STI, but it was totaled by a drunk driver and my best friend was killed. I used the totaled out money for my down payment on my STI.

The thing that bothers me is that the kids in high school that get these cars, act like the lesser model is not an option. There's three kids that go to by brother's HS who are getting STI's because they're faster than a WRX or Impreza, not because they're going to use an STI to it's potential or want to track it. One actually said to me "I have my heart set on the blue interior."

I'm over HS kids and these cars, there are definitely exceptions, but 90% are dumbasses who will hopefully drive them into the ground.

I'm going back to college in September by the way. I graduated when I was 17.

Yes, a co-worker has an 06 evo and was just tuned and dyno'd at 511. He's only 17 in highschool and had this for his first car. His car payment is 550 he has new clothes every week and claims him mother doesnt buy him anything. I'm glad my parents dont buy me anything.
