Hi Phil

I am having problems with my hydra in my STI type R . She is running a fully forged 2.5 block with a gt3076 turbo .

she will not rev past 6200 , even in a free rev .All the rpm limiters are set at 7600 . Ive even gone through the hassle of installing the original ecu and it revs perfectly .

It sounds like a cylinder or 2 drops off ignition at 6200 . Is it possible an ignition driver failing . Car runs 1.5 bar boost with no issues upto that rpm

Safe to assume the Hydra forum is down? Honestly, it's no surprise - the number of false accounts wasn't usually less than 50 a day.

1st make sure your "maximum boost" map is set above the boost level you run or "boost target" (older Hydras cut fuel +3 psi over target) is set so the Hydra doesn't fuel cut.

2nd make sure you don't have flat-shift, launch, or anti-lag active. You can check this under the Auxilliary Inputs.

To me it sounds like one of the Auxiliary inputs is set and active.

Works for me but it's a totally new forum for the 2.7 so it's possible it was down for updating.

Yep, it's /nemesisforum instead of /forum now.

The old one is still there, but you can't log in and all the information is inaccessible.

For Hydra Subaru support you're better off checking in here on Nasioc as we are the Subaru Hydra experts and I just don't have the time to work more than one technical forum.

Thanks,
Phil Grabow

Phil, it looks like I'm out of options anyway - they're claiming all pre-2.7 support is out the window over there. It's kind of a drag that the old forum had to be shut off, because there was a good share of useful information there, and if nothin' else, fellow owners of different models of the pre-2.7 Nemesis could share what they know.

Naturally, that doesn't draw a few hundred bucks per update. I wish I had some use for the 2.7, but I sure don't, and neither does my budget. The HydraEMS side of support has been rather disappointing.

I appreciate your continued help, Phil.

Don't worry we can still provide technical information but also keep in mind 2.6 is very similar to 2.7 as far as tuning maps are concerned. I'm still much more of an expert with pre 2.7 Hydras anyway I've been working with 2.7 for about 6 months now and it's definitely a move for the better as it's just easier for newer Hydra tuners and customers.

I'm going twinscroll 35r, e85, no emissions, no avcs, 1300cc injectors,
4in air inlet to the turbo...
should i run just a map sensor or rum map and mass airflow
and do you have a base map i can start my car on?
I plan on starting it and break in on 93
I have hydra 2.6 and a 05 sti
any info would be appreated thanks

Phil, I'm considering attaching a fuel pressure sender to my Hydra. I've wired my AEM AFR gauge to it, so I've got an idea of what's involved. Any advice on choosing a sending unit?

I only have 2000cc high impedance or 1600cc low impedance fuel maps for E85. I don't have any 1300cc high impedance fuel maps for the record but I do have plenty of 1260cc low impedance.

The Hydra has the MAP sensor built in to the unit and it only uses the MAF for intake air temp.

On the STG5 Hydra 2.7 there is an option to run fuel pressure corrections. Now I've never used this as it's new but I would think any sending unit would work and then you would have to map the input voltage into the Hydra.

I hope I can find the information I need here...its all about Syvecs in the UK so very little help\advice available

I'm going to be running a 2.35 with v8 AVCS heads on a v6 car; I have a Hydra v2.5 that supports closed loop AVCS and a v6 loom adapter to allow me to use my existing loom. However that obviously leaves with me a few issues some of questions;

1. what do I need to make up (in terms of an add on loom), to run AVCS with the v6 adapter?

2. i want the ability to run closed loop fuelling so have brought a wideband lambda but again need to know what i need to make up in terms of a loom for the v6 adapter...

3. as above for anti lag, auxiliary map and launch control...

Cheers in advance,
Ian

NITROS: The answer to that question was in the old Hydra forum, but since the advent of the 2.7, all previous information is inaccessible.

The first thing you need is the wiring diagram for your specific car. You should be able to get that - the powers that be will ask for your serial number.

PM me your e-mail and I'll send you what I've got for wiring.

1)I finally got it to idle well but the car doesnt want to start nearly at all. I tried adding an removing fuel from the cranking enrichment, and post start enrichment. It maybe catchs for a 3 rev cycles and dies immeidately, not enough time for figure out whats wrong from the logs. I've tried to increase min ISC to about 40-50 from 18.

2) When i get it running when i free rev with partical through it revs fine past 4000 rpm. when i rev wot or enough to build boost while driving the car seems to misfire or pull timing like crazy. Not sure what could be wrong here.

3) does anyone have a base map for 1000cc ID injectors? I have 1200cc bosch injectors but it would put me closer, I only have the base 440cc wrx injector map, I've tried the 440/1200 formula from the manual with no success, car wont even start.

3) the above issues do not exist on the stock 04 wrx ecu.

I just moved to AZ from CT and my 2004 STI needs a tune. I have a Hydra 2.5. Who should I have tune it? Right now I think Clark Turner is my best option. Any input is much appreciated.

Thanks

Make sure you don't have "Anti-lag" or "launch control" enabled under the IO options as a test. With 2.6 Hydras you can actually view what inputs are being used and what features are being activated.

Lot's of times when people try to make there own map from one of mine they end up scaling the whole map and it often results in the starting areas of the fuel map (85mm/hg to 1 psi and up to 400 RPM) too lean. If these values are too low then increasing the cranking enrichment doesn't do as much as it should so I think you should add fuel in the main fuel map to help. Also watch your cranking voltage and if it's not over 10.2 volts it's not going to start because the Motorola processor will not boot at 10 volts.

Yeah Clark is catching on well with the Hydras and also Travis at Snail Performance has been doing a good job.

Thank you for the input. I am just starting to learn about the Hydra and I know you have a ton of experience using it, so here is one more question:

Just out of curiosity, do you think Clark and Travis will be able to work with the 2.5? Or, will I have to upgrade to a 2.7 because of connection issues? The last tuner I went to in CT had troubles with the 2.5 because it is somewhat outdated. If I have to upgrade, then I will. However, I would much rather not have to spend the money right now because I am a college student.

Thanks again,
Joel

Yes, they will have more experience with the older platforms but I think both of them have more experience with 2.6 but I know Travis had a 2.5 in his personal car.

Both 2.6 and 2.7 are more demanding of the connection than 2.5 since the newer units are 100% real time tuning (no download needed). Connection issues aren't an issue with the Hydra or the software it's the adapter since the Hydra is serial. So far from our experience a Serial Card is best and second best is a USB to Serial adapter with a FTDI chip (not Prolific).

Oh well that's good, I am less worried about it now. I set up an appointment with Clark at Goodspeed. Thanks for the help, Ill let you know how the session goes.
