My neighbour backed into my front bumper while in our parkade. Now I gotta deal with insurance, the headache of dealing with 3 stage paint.........
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu*** this car!!

Other than that... perfect shifting. It's a little crunchy (very direct mechanical connection, so you do feel a bit more) and had to get used to working with the synchros, the clutch feel and clutch grab point, the power band and how to release the clutch, etc... many other manuals are a lot easier to just get in and drive. Feel smoother; easy clutch. But the STI feels... sturdy and manly.

Vin Diesel approves the STI transmission.

Edit: By the way... I think YOU are f*ing up your transmissions and were unlucky with the used 2015. This thread is a good reminder of why you DON'T buy used STIs... I wouldn't want to buy your 2017

My 16 STI did this as well. I couldn't even downshift at any decent rpms. I bought it used with 4k miles and thought since it was low miles, and under warranty it wasn't going to be a problem. Yea, never buying used again with an STI. After it getting annoying, I took it to the dealer. Of course they couldn't replicate the grind. Needless to say, I got rid of that car, and on the 19 STI have never had a problem with 11k miles.

I feel ya
My gas light was on for 75 miles and this piece of F-ing junk stopped running and I had to get a tow to a gas station.
If that was the only problem I've had in 90k miles that would be one thing, but I also went tailgating once at night and used my headlights and stereo for 4 hours without the car running and. . . . .yep, you guessed it. . . . .piece of crap battery died and I needed to jump it.

Dealer won't buy it back as a lemon, keep quoting lame technicalities like "cars need gas" and "you can't use headlights for hours without the car running" or some crap like that.
Scam artists.

I bought a used 2015 STI Limited with 32k from a piece of **** dealership whom shall remain nameless. The first time I started it up, the check engine light came on, so it was back to the dealership to discover a misfiring cylinder 1. That was "fixed". A few days later, my clutch pedal decides to stick to the floor leaving me stranded on the road. So, it's back to the dealership for me and the tow truck driver. The dealership replaces the entire clutch, as the throw out was bad and the flywheel bracket broken. Hurray. New clutch. But the fun doesn't stop there. A few days later, the check engine light comes on again. It's back to the dealership to discover it's our good friend, cylinder 1. At this time, I demand the dealership buy it back. They said "No". Come to find out, the previous owner had thrown a rod, and the dealership had done $14k in warrant work replacing the engine and turbo and whatever else.

So, instead of burning the dealership to the ground and turning the severed heads of their staff into decorative ornaments for my Christmas tree, I decide to give SOA a call and tell them all about my situation. Let me just say SOA is fantastic to deal with. So much so that they bought my car back, and gave me a brand new 2017 STI Base for the same costs as my used 2015 STI Limited. Personally, I prefer the base model: the seats are more comfortable, there's no ****ing sunroof. I'd rather have my own sound system installed than pay $2k for the "eh" Harman Kardon.

Anywho, hurray! Everything was just hunky dory until the transmission issue that happened this month. Yes, it will be covered under warranty, but that's not the point.

Never say never lol
To be honest, I don't like blanket statements; so of course, there are and you can find great, excellent used WRX/STI. But you have to be really picky before you jump on a used one. And you MUST be able to walk away at any time... as in, your "heart" must be COMPLETELY out of it so that you're not blind to obvious red flags.

Anyways... get your transmission checked thanks to that warranty you have. Then pay attention to your driving/shifting habits. The STI transmission is very sturdy, but it is finnicky. It's difficult to explain...

The only time I'd buy a used WRX/STI is for dirt cheap, with a blown engine

I've never seen so many negative Nancys in my life - buying a used STi isn't the end of the world, not everyone here lives their life a quarter mile at a time.

I'll tell you what I wouldn't do: buy a used STi from a "bro-dawg" in a flat billed hat whose STi has mudflaps (on a street car, wtf idiots/ricers), knock-off wheels, sticker-bombed anything, any mods associated with "stance" and any form of an "e-tune".

So basically 90%+ of Nasioc.

Personally, I don't care if they serve any function; watching someone's mud flaps, flapping in the wind, at 7mph in traffic, is flat out laughable and without a doubt almost as bad as stancing out your whip.

If you're not rallying, off-roading or generally doing something with your WRX/STi that truly requires those fugly flaps - you're a ricer period.

Does having wide, sticky tires that kick rocks up onto my pristine paint count as a good enough reason for you?

I wish I had the flaps. Went to detail my car and every single panel needs clay bar as I have been commuting down a highway that is being repaved in both directions. I now have tar everywhere.

I ran Toyo R888Rs, daily, had little to no issues. So, no.

Mud flaps are just rice, period.

I would never buy a used STI/WRX. Chances are they the previous owner beat on it.

The thread was opened as a rage induced rant, so the fact it's spiraled into nonsensical chaos is correct.

I don't know man; I see a LOT of very very well taken care of STIs around here. Full service record, clean title, relatively low mileage and very little rust out here in BC. Many still have some form of warranty for a couple of years depending on the year.

There's also a lot of "85,000 km (30,000 km on the engine)" more than on almost ANY other make/model.

Some are fully stock; but most have modifications up to... seriously modified. I guess it's up to you to understand where you draw the line. I say no to red mudflaps and "race brand" stickers. But of course, not everyone can (or wants to) afford a brand new car...

Dirt cheap would probably be a ~5yr old car for around 50% the price of a brand new one. It's not exactly dirt cheap, but it is reasonable.

It is comical that someone from SoCal talking about the functionality of mud guards/flaps, you will feel differently if you live in the snow belt. While I don't have them on my car because of visual reasons and am lucky enough to not have to deal with snow and ice too often during the winter months, one can not argue against their functionality to protect a vehicle from salt, sand and gravel during the winter.

With that said, I can certainly understand where you are coming from with this. It is just as idiotic as someone from SoCal buying an AWD street car to go AutoX or Time Attack. Those people would be much better served with a light weight RWD or mid-engine vehicle should they have the need to live out their infantile fantasy of being a "racer".

To add, 90+% of the people in SoCal with AWD vehicles will never find themselves in any sort of situation that will need AWD.

Bottom line, live and let live.

Mud flaps are for ricers and nothing will change that, period.

The beautiful thing about SoCal is we’re only a couple hours away from the snow (Big Bear) and we’ve also got the beach to enjoy as well.

Mud flaps, flapping in traffic, is again - hilarious and cringeworthy at the same time.

For those who have them, enjoy them. For those thinking about getting them, make better choices.
