Have a Nice Day? Rally Australia could be last 2000 WRC round...

The following from http://www.rally-
live.com/GB/ "Latest News":

Petrol crisis may interrupt proceedings.

Australia could well be the last round of the year on the World Rally Championship calendar. In the U.K., road blockades are expected to take place just before the RAC Rally, the event being scheduled for the end of the month.

In September, road users took to the streets after British Chancellor Gordon Brown's failed attempts at reaching a compromise over rising fuel costs in Great Britain.

Hauliers and farmers may once again take direct action if the British Government decide to re-implement what they call a "fuel duty escalator". To halt the last blockade, Brown negotiated a 60 day period at he end of which he had to come up with a solution. It ends on the 13th of November. His current stance, though, mirrors Prime Minister Tony Blair's : he won't back down.

It's impossible to know to what extent this situation will affect Wales, where the rally takes place. If a new wave of protesting goes ahead, the United Kingdom's main arteries and petrol depots will be blocked bringing chaos back to the land.

Gordon Brown's main concern is the country's economy and this may therefore end as a stalemate since the protesters are demanding substantial drops in prices.

What a nail-biting affair for all rally fans around the world but all we can do is sit back and hope for the best.

If this happens we might have a new drivers/constructors champion a bit sooner than expected.

I'm rooting for the Brits to steal the drivers title from the Swedes...

As for constructors title, I'm hoping Skoda...oh wait...I meant Subaru...

What crap. The protestors want 14 pence on the litre in tax cuts. Oooo, that's a "substantial drop".

The UK government is training SOLDIERS (not police) to drive fuel trucks and training them how to breakup peaceful protests.

If the government won't listen to peaceful protest, then one alternative that comes to light is NON peaceful protest.
