Default Toyota Announce All-New Four Cylinder Engine For 2009 Toyota Highlander

Toyota will soon be shipping their 2009 Highlander with their 2.7-litre four-pot engine, offering customers a choice below that of the premium-priced V6 model - turning the Highlander into one of the most fuel efficient, low emitting, highest performing and best value SUVs in its segment.

Importantly, the Highlander's new addition allows for residence in the top rankings for fuel consumption, returning 22 mpg on the combined cycle and peaking at 27 mpg on the highway. Its EPA rating is as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (designating its status as emitting half the amount of average vehicleson the market). There is however little compromise in performance and noise is also on a par to its V6 sibling.

The 2.7-litre four-cylinder powerplant's intelligent variable valve timing system allows for optimum balance between performance and efficiency, with engine output at 187 hp and 180 lb/ft of torque available across engine speeds. Mated to an 'electronically-controlled automatic overdrive transmission with intelligence (ECT-i)', acceleration from 0-60 mph is swiftly achieved in 9.7 seconds.

The new engine will come as standard on the well-equipped two-wheel-drive, two-row model and be packaged alongside air con, a six-speaker audio system, power doors, locks and windows, cruise control and keyless entry.

With the introduction of the new four-pot, the Highlander is the first vehicle in its class to offer three powerplant options: 2.7, 3.5 V6 and 3.5 V6 Hybrid.
