My turbo came and looks great. It took too long, but I'm happy in the end.
Hope these guys can get their operation smoothed out as they have a good product.

You might also want to check your oil feed line. The one they sent attached to my turbo is too long and touches the mounting bracket of my intercooler no matter how it's routed. We haven't finished putting everything back together yet on my car, but I'm concerned it's going to rub and fray if I drive it. I'd attach a picture on here and show you if I could figure out how. |

Yea no problem. We're going to try and put everything back together sometime tomorrow. If it looks like it's going to be a problem we might try to modify the mounting bracket and see if that works rather than having to try and contact 6 Star seeing as how I really don't want to have to deal with them again if I don't have to. In saying that though, they still haven't let me know which billet wheel upgrade they gave me or the specs of it . I think when I have it tuned I'm going to tell my tuner to assume it was the baseline upgrade that flows at like 40 or 41/lbs.

I did receive a new oil feed line from them and violá, it fits! I don't have to worry about it rubbing because I am running without a heat shield for now. So most everything is bolted up and I just need to fit a few vacuum hoses and throw my spark plug boots back on and I should be good to go hopefully!
*update* The car runs like a champ. The turbo seems to run fine and I'm currently waiting to get tuned so I haven't boosted it yet. More to follow soon. Last edited by Brown Ops; 02-12-2014 at 02:46 PM. |

*edit* They are reputable. I found out they make turbos for rally cars and have been doing so for a while now. The way they handle business isn't the best but they are the only folks that I know who rebuild the VF series if turbos. |

I had a bad experience dealing with these guys . After talking to whoever runs the place for a while he tried to convince me that a modified tdo4 would be a good turbo for me, and he knew that I had an almost new 4000 mile vf48 & a vf39 in great condition .
In my stupidity not wanting to pay any more out of pocket I struck a deal that he was going to give me the modified td04, and a perrin turbo inlet for both turbos plus my stock td04 . After quite a bit of research and talking to other people I learned that I would have been WAY better off with the turbos I already had, especially the 48, so I kept it . Knowing then at that time he gave $300 for VF turbos not wanting to deal with having to sell it to an individual I sent him the 39 I had plus my tdo4 not caring if he gave me anything for the TD04 I just knew that they rebuilt them . I was shocked when all I got in return was a perrin turbo inlet pipe in the mail. I couldn't believe it. I even explained in a letter, and email about how I changed my mind and decided to run the 48 , I never expected for someone to rip me off this badly especially a supposably reputable business owner . This was over 2 years ago they had just started rebuilding vf's which then were rumored to be non rebuildable , by his own words they really needed vf series turbos. So I see now that this guy tried to take full advantage of my stupidity to get his hands on the turbos I had, and when things didn't work out he sent me a turbo inlet pipe, and thought I would just take it up the rear . I would never do business with anyone like this ever and the only reason why I didn't make it my full time mission to ruin their reputation was because I was too busy at that time living in 2 different cities, 250 miles from each other, and working a fulltime job while in the process of moving. Not to mention being in the middle of a car build. Last edited by mcmikecruz; 02-15-2014 at 01:37 AM. |

Is there any info on your build sheet/order form indicating the billet upgrade, such as 60, 62, 65mm? If your turbo was modified, I would think the tech would have checked the appropriate boxes on the form indicating as much. |

thanks for all the posting of reviews here guys! I had my mechanic tell me that my turbo has a bit of shaft play and I'll need to be replacing it soon. I started researching a bit and found Six Star Speed offering their rebuild service. However after reading the negative posts here I think I'll stay clear.

I've been talking with Ian at Modern Automotive Performance, and he's been great thus far! I've asked a bunch of questions and he's been super quick to respond and let me know a direction from them. I'm thinking I might well just go with the EF2 from them and get it tuned right there.

Has anyone just gone ahead and bought a turbo from them? I am wondering if that could cure some of the "waiting" issues. I am completely fine with spending the small additional money and shipping them my core.

I finally got my turbo after going around and around for over 14 weeks. Somehow mine got lost. A local who ordered one straight up got it about 2 weeks later.
The workmanship on both is second to none, and their rebuild service is top notch. It just sucks that they can't seem to handle their customer service very well or their current work volume. If they are having too much volume, they should bump their prices a hair to slow things down some until they can catch up. |

I have a VF48 that needs rebuilt and had intended on purchasing a new CHRA from them, but their website said that they were out of stock. I tried calling them but didn't get through so I emailed them and received a very prompt reply. Jonathan said that they have been having a hard time keeping the CHRAs in stock for both retail sale and their rebuilds, so they are no longer offering the CHRA for sale by itself. They are still offering new/rebuilt turbos and service though. I think that might explain some if the delays that others are having since their retail sale of the CHRAs is causing them to get backed up with their rebuild services. Anyway, just my $0.02.

I've been having email conversations with Jonathan for the past couple months and he's been pretty on the ball with me as far as email conversations go. I'll be sending my VF48 over to them shortly.

He is pretty good about getting back to you when you email him. That was the best way for me to stay informed of my build and to ask questions and such.

I'm running their 20GXR
I am running the 20GXR that I waited 6 months for due to their bearing supplier in Germany not having stock. The turbo is very good, and compares favorably over other 20G turbos with an 8cm hotside. I don't know what the compressor wheel that I have is rated at, but it could be anywhere from 42-45lb. The car was tuned by Travis at Snail Performance for both 91 oct. and E85.

Awesome, you just made my day.
Hopefully I get my power earlier on since I'll be running 93 octane and a smaller turbo. On my blouch 18GXT I made 340 on a mustang dyno and I'm hopeing to get the same numbers again on this turbo but with less lag. Last edited by subaruuwrx; 03-25-2014 at 02:23 PM. |
