Default New to Subaru, some stupid questions.

Hey everybody. So for the past few years I've been a real hardcore Honda guy, and I owned (among others) a 97 Prelude and a 00 Civic Si. I did a lot of work to them, but eventually got sick of the other Honda people. I got out of working with cars completely. I'm sure this has happened to plenty of you, but that itch to build something would not stay away. The Legacy sedan has caught my eye, and I have a few questions about them and Subaru in general.
Like in Honda, can you swap motors between Subaru models. I put an Integra motor one of my Civic's. Can I, say, put an STI motor into a Legacy?
And what kind of things do I need to know.
Any help is appreciated, and I hope you Subaru guys are better than the Honda ones.
Thanks, Alex

Pretty much any subaru engine from 91-now is more or less a direct bolt in to any subaru chassis, but there is much to be done in terms of wiring, various external bits, things like that. These range from trivial to nearly impossible depending on which motor you want and how much money you have to spend.

The parts on my car (98 Impreza) range from 1989 to 2006 with no custom fabrication for most of it.

Subaru swaps are usually quite a bit more expensive than in the Honda world. Very similar swap potentials, though. It's easier to get an STI setup into a Legacy GT than building a poor man's type R to put into a first gen CRX,, for example. Brake upgrades are similar to Honda, but not as easy as buying the same generation Integra to put into a Civic/CRX.

(jack raced a prepared C 87 CRX for 5 years)
