What's stopping you from getting the motor in and selling it for what it's "actually" worth?

What’s stopping is I’m extremely anal and detailed oriented and It will take me forever to put it together plus I’m afraid I may be tempted to keep it. I’m trying to get rid of stuff not keep it forever, minimalistic mindset.

I hear you there. It would be cool to see this hit the road again after so much time! Good luck with whatever happens.

Default MI: Pristine 2007 Forester XT 5MT Limited w/JDM FSTi parts, 84K miles, $15,000.

You can bring back this car to life in two flavors:

1) stock including secondary air pumps, turbo, original no rust exhaust, injectors, tiny TMIC or

2) Continue the 400 whp theme Speed Density COBB dual maps E85 and 93.

I have all the original parts own the car since 2007.

All mods done by me with factory manual and OEM parts.

Car is being reviewed by bringatrailer, it will be listed as a project car since its non-running. There is still a chance to buy it before Ad goes live. BaT charges buyer 5% on top of sales price.

Posted new pics of build. Build stopped in 2015 and I haven’t touched it since.

Beautiful car and looks like a fun project. I would jump at this if I had a garage. Good time to sell a car, GLWS!

I guess I didn’t put enough effort BaT rejected the add.

Hey I'm interested but unfortunately I would not be able to put the engine together myself :-(

That’s not a problem - A local Subaru mechanic highly recommended quoted $2,000.
I could bring the car and parts to him. He knows the project and offered to work on it.

https://bringatrailer.com/listing/20...ru-forester-6/

So this POS sold for $26k?? And I’m still struggling to sell mine.

Perfect interiors
No rust
Never seen the sun unless while being driven
Can be brought to stock or tuned to 400 whp with all the parts necessary included
Clean title
No accidents
No curve rashed wheels
No painted panels
Mine is 2 years newer and more desirable than than the 05’s.
Mine has the look of the JDM STi with the comfort of a Limited XT, leather not cloth, heated mirrors and windshield, nicer interior, etc.

Sorry, but you're not seeing the forest(er) for the trees. (yuk, yuk).

First, BaT prices for buyers are always unrealistically high. But even then:

The linked Forester was presented well. The replacement engine was installed by Cobb, a known quality outfit. I'll admit that seeing Mishimoto would make me put a big red X through the listing, but it's all there.

So here's how I see the 2 cars. It's simple.

BaT: Old FXT with recent pro installed engine with some cool accessories that I could fly in to him and drive it home.

Yours: Nice Forester roller with no engine in it. A separate engine of unknown (to me) usefulness that will cost me a grand to transport home.

If I were buying your vehicle, I'd put away $3k to have the engine put in. I'd add another grand for the transport and waste of time bringing it to a shop to get the engine put in. There are some good tuner shops near me. They're all an hour away. I sold my car trailer years ago, so I'd be renting one to get the car there. But even that's a hassle because U-Haul won't rent to people with Wranglers unless they have the hard top and a 4 door. I have a 4 door but run the soft top during the summer. So there's the hassle of swapping the hard top on just to rent the trailer. I'd take my son and drive the car home after it's done.

But in all honesty, I have no desire for a project. If the car's not turn key, I would pass by.

^$15,000 plus $5,000 (being super conservative) buys the best-preserved FXTs available. Just the aftermarket parts alone make up for the difference.

I'd love to deliver the car and parts to the right buyer ($500-$1000 to cover for Turo towing vehicle, Uhaul, lodging).

BaT has been super nice and have hinted direction that the best course of action is to complete the project.

......Thanks for emailing. I think your project is really cool, I am a big fan of that generation Forester and stop and take photos any time I see a clean one parked on the street. However, project cars are simply somewhat outside our focus - we do focus on vintage, enthusiast, and classic cars in running condition. When considering projects, a lot of thought goes into the decision - how much work does the car need, how widely appealing it is, how hard it is to find something similar, etc. Additionally, we are simply a lot more prudent with post-2000 era cars that are more abundant on the used market....

Customer Service | bringatrailer.com

Why I do not complete the project is because I'm tired of being so anal about everything, it's exhausting, !! and need to make my life more simple, the methodical and perfection driven me will take a year or who knows how long to complete it. Needs to go plus , I need the covered parking space being occupied for the past 7 freaking years. I live in MI, sucks having a perfect covered garage and having to park outside.

This...I'm simply failing to understand why OP won't spend the supposed $2K to a "highly recommended Subaru mechanic" to get the engine done and car running, then get it on BaT and get the $30+K this apparently must be worth if a "POS" is selling for $26K.

Enjoy the free bumps I suppose.

Because I will get involved and micromanage the **** out of the build.
because I will want to keep it

If you had an obsessive-compulsive personality you would understand. My mental health is first and hence I need to sell as is.

And yes "highly recommended Subaru mechanic"

If you want to sell it so bad why not drop the price instead of complaining how no one will give you their money?

Nice car, but project cars are hard to sell as I'm sure you're finding out. GLWS.

I'll send you $17k, you take it to your reputable Subaru mechanic to get it completed and I'll come pick it up when done.

Being in OH it'd make more sense to trailer the car to your local mechanic. If issues arise you are local.
