Default 2017 WRX HU Swap

Question for y'all: Because the WRX Limited has a 7.1" HU just like the Harmon Kardon HU, could you literally just pick up one of those and swap it in plug and play and have Nav as well as alleviate the terrible power output that the non HK model has?

No. They are pinned differently, even if they plug in it would not work. There is a separate amp in the trunk under the rear decklid in those vehicles with it.

Damn, so even if I got the amp and everything out of a scrapped car it wouldn't work. That's highly disappointing, I was really hoping to be able to swap them out, sucks that they made basically 3 different models for the Head Units, 2 of which suck.

I've been happy with the stock headunit after the equalizer fix and the addition of the OEM subwoofer. Have you messed around with the equalizer settings?

To be fair I'm going off reviews. I'm currently deployed, I'll be home in a few weeks. I had family pick it up for me and a friend said he fiddled with the EQ settings and it helped. But I'm seeing that an Alpine Power Pack seems to help? Maybe that's a decent first avenue? That would power the front speakers/tweeters yes? Then just run an amp to a sub.

I don't have the alpine power pack. I was able to find a used OEM sub for $250 and it comes with the wiring harness for a direct plug and play. With the sub and the modified EQ I am now satisfied with the sound.

You're powering a sub off the stock head unit with no amp?

The OEM sub comes with a built in amp attached to the box.

Ahhh that makes sense, thank you for insight on what you've got.
