Default Paint protection

My car has accumulated a number of small scratches on the famously thin Subaru paint - mostly on the doors, fenders rear hatch. I'm not sure if it's from hasty washing with a few quick blasts from the hose at the car wash, or shopping carts or what. No rock chips though the bug deflector helps for that.

I have two other cars, a 98 Volvo and an 87 Accord, neither has this problem, so the Subaru definitely has weaker/thinner paint. I've heard that new car paints face stricter environmental standards, are water based and softer.

Has anyone tried a detailing/polishing/coating approach used by The Shine Factory, or their competitors? It costs $150 -$200, depending on whether you get a Teflon coating or slightly harder Acrylic one. Supposedly it penetrates the paint, bonds with it, and overcoats it somewhat.

Anyone tried this, or seen any other products that would protect the paint (not just Stongard film on the front of the hood)?
