it's got a 20g now. 40t rapidly developed shaft play. momentum rebuilt it and I sold it. anyway, in betw boost leaks, exahust leaks, and a few other issues, it is a looot of fun.

Going front-mount versus top-mount for an IC is not a cosmetic thing silly.

TMIC’s are limited (by their size) with the air-charge they can support, which typically maxes out around 5~600CFM and is well suited for your run of the mill mid-range turbos (VF22, VF30, VF39, 16G, etc). For those who run larger turbo applications (any superzilla, GT series, etc) a much larger IC is required to cool the 600+CFM flows. Unfortunately you just can’t stuff a 28”x10” long core under your hood scoop otherwise we’d all be running TMIC’s..

also the new legacy has a puny (aerodynamic) scoop compared to wrxs and sti's - even with a larger TMIC there is a question about how much air it can flow.

I can't dispute that with evidence, but I've heard that the 04-05 STi scoop was actually very inefficient due to the hood dynamics, and the scoop size was enlarged to compensate.

The Legacies have a much longer hood to shape the air, and don't need as big of a scoop.

just what I've heard

plus just from what i can visually see, the legacy scoop is basically cut into the hood so air flow basically continues straight into the IC, where as the STi or wrx had to pull air in and direct it onto the IC.

oh, now don't say that.

anythings possible.

I like the lack of piping for the top mount on the flat engine, extra piping equals pressure drop, and reduction of inlet port velocity.

do a reverse intake manifold like me and you will eliminate a lot of that piping Eventually I plan to do a setup to cut down the piping to under 3' if you make your own setup you can have all the benefits with almost zero drawbacks.

what side of the engine is the turbo on with these?

I would be really prone to make it twin turbo with a turbo one each head right under the car, has that been done? or would that hang too low?

I originally thought of doing that, however you would need to run a dry sump setup since you can obviously not use a gravity feed return, unless you could get a sealed turbo lubrication unit but I dont think they have them in large enough turbo sizes(IMO). It would be sick and someone is supposedly doing it they have told me, but it will be quite the undertaking if they do. Just the amount of money, I could have easily gone that way but I didnt want to deal with having to CNC a new oil pan and bracket and such for the sump pulley and such.

again, if I had unlimited time and money it may be a route to do as well. It would be awesome to see, I really wish there was someone that actually had the money to pay me to make a setup for them haha, that would be ideal.

^^That’s a common twin-turbo setup, which IIRC Audi used in their older Bi-Turbo models (S4, S6, S8), one turbo tucked under each side of the exhaust manifold. Of course this was on a V engine, not a flat motor...

Yeah I hear ya, but even with a more efficient TMIC, there are still limitations due to size on the ability to cool the air-charge. A 20G turbo is rated at 650CFM at 14.7PSI with a 44lb/min wheel and that’s at conservative pressure! That CFM alone has already exceeded any TMIC on market which will fit a wrx/sti/lgt hood. If one were to use this turbo with a TMIC (which I’m sure some people do) they’d be forced to significantly limit their tune to the conservative side to reduce/prevent the unnecessary detonation which can be expected an improperly cooled air-charge.

This has been the problem plaguing me as well. I can’t fit any larger of a TMIC, and I can’t fab up the stock BD bumper-cover to fit a decent sized FMIC, which is keeping me from upgrading from a mid-range to a big-dog turbo. I’m still working a plan though. I’m thinking the best of both worlds with an AWIC setup positioned in the TMIC location.

air to water works awsome, it does weigh considerably more though.

what companies make WAIC's for the subaru 2.5?

TDC has announced they are coming up with a solution - but more specifically designed for the new leggacies.

I still vote huge hood scoop

theres a pic of one on a 06 style wrx in the hella lighting thread.

thing looks like a post office drop box, hellz yeeah!!!

btw, anybody know were to find one of those huge rally style wrx scoops that could go on a leg hood? or a pic of how obscenely huge it would look?

also, is there a company that sells the hood vents from the old skool imprezia rally car?

I'm trying to force this wagon of mine to look like a rally car.

flanders, your car looks perfect. I love the color, the drop, and the 05LGT wheels. Very nice! I'm guessing it handles pretty damn well too from the mods list.

Flanders, the car looks great! I bet some JDM tails would really compliment it nicely. The wheels just look great with that drop. Not usually a fan of the 2000+ model years, but that one does look good.

Legacygt05, that is a real sharp ride! Only thing I'd change are the wheels...but thats just personal preference. As a whole package, its a tight ride! Tinted tails, angel eyes, yellow fogs, window tints...nice eye candy!

Did you up the size of the muff tips?
