Eagerly waiting for it. I'm hoping it will be in my mailbox tomorrow afternoon.

Just a word of warning: those grinders aren't generally made for that, and it will probably shorten its lifespan.

That being said, I did it many times with my Encore, it hit the overheat cutoff many times. Still works.

Nice. I mean it's a $100 grinder, not like it's the end of the world if it did croak.

The Encore is working pretty good so far. A bit louder than expected maybe, but it's not that huge a deal. I didn't expect to have to run a cup of beans through it to throw out, so I bought some other beans I didn't care about as much. I thought the flavor description was relating to the notes that the beans had, but turns out it was actually a flavored coffee. Oops.

Well, it'll wear off eventually!

I did find the grounds were abnormally course. I looked it up and needed to recalibrate it. Which is a weird way to phrase it because you're not really calibrating per se, since the ground numbers are arbitrary. You're just setting the scale of how fine or course it is. Either way, it was defaulted to the coursest setting, so I set it to medium. I still need to dial it down to 10 to get good grounds for auto drip, so I'll probably be setting it to the finest setting next.

It's just too bad that they went with snaps instead of screws to hold the case on, because there's no way to get the case off without bending/denting it. Well, maybe there is, but I lack the skill to do it.

Long story short, it's nice to be able to get some consistent grounds now, without needing to grind an entire bag at the grocery store!

When I'm looking for some new beans, I'll give the West Coast a try.

Sounds pretty good, glad you're enjoying it. They're pretty well-designed units.

Hell no. I'm toying with the idea of doing a holiday bundle with the LUME grinder:

Anyone like that idea?

I took a wedding gift and some Illy to Iceland with us. It was a great starter in the morning before going out and finding some local coffee spots to get going.

I had to do a search, but those pictures match where we went one evening. They did have some trophies in there for roasting competitions they had won.

one of the worlds largest coffee roasting facilities, Atlantic Coffee Solutions, not too far from my house, is closing next month. they've made coffee here since 1946.

will be a sad day, it was always nice to have a whiff of coffee in the air when there was a north wind.

My understanding from a guy that worked there years ago was that the place wasn't making money on roasting coffee for a long time, and they were set up to make decaf and that the value was in the sale of the caffeine to energy drinks makers.

basically, for volume roasting, it's not economical to roast in the USA. the size of the plant is huge, and they had nearly 300 people roasting coffee there with the help of automation.

Yep, but the hot pink roaster had apparently been moved for more seating. Great cappuccino and machiato!

Any suggestions on the best coffee to use for cold brew? Or the best process of making it?

My Sumatra is pretty badass as cold brew.

You can make it in a French Press, or a bucket and a sock, but:

These are too expensive for me right now, unless a bunch of you really want them. I may do Jamaica Blue Mountain this year, I have a connection. I cupped it recently, it's very good, and makes nice gifts.
