$16,295 a good price on an 06 2.5 Impreza?
So I was down talking to my local suby dealer and after crunching some numbers and BS'n I got them down to $16,295 on a brand new 2006 Impreza. I'm about to jump on it, just need to talk to my credit union to see if they can get me a better rate.
Anyways, just wanted to see what you guys were paying on 05/06 Impreza's and what mods can I do? I'd like a short shifter immediately, where can I get one? Also, do all the STI/WRX parts swap over? Mainly looking at the suspension/wheels & tires. Lastly, my buddy has an 06 WRX TR and upgraged his exhaust and other parts, would his exhaust setup be a straight swap and good for some horsepower? Thanks Matt

Sound like a good deal. Subaru had some really good rates when I got mine in October.

That sounds like a great deal. Jump on it now. Do you have a trade? If so, make sure they're not screwing on the trade to make up for the balance.

I do have a trade, but they don't know about it yet. I ALWAYS negotiate the sellling price before telling them of my trade. I'm trading my GTP and am looking to get 9-10k for it. It's paid off so the effect of how much they give me can't be hidden in anway. The reason I'm looking for the 2.5 is because I want to use cheap gas and get better gas mileage than my current car. That and I only want a car payment of around $150 or less per month. Which I shouldn't have a problem doing, and I'll have a NEW car.
Thanks guys, gonna go try and finish the deal tomorrow. |

your asking trade-in value seems high for a 2001, unless you have some real low mileage one, i dont think you'll get anywhere even close to 9.

You could always try a private sale on the Pontiac. Regardless, that sounds like a pretty sweet deal on the 2.5i. I paid $14,700 for my 2001 RS sedan in 2003 w/ 28k miles. $16,295 for a better engine in a slightly heavier car that is brand spanking new sounds like a very good deal.

yea sounds veryy nice. Isn't MSRP like $18K?
btw, a private sale with the GTP would get you more money. generally trade-in value is lower than private/dealer sales price. |

That's a GREAT deal. I paid $19,300 including tax & tags back in November. I was able to take advantage of the great financing deal on a 3-year loan so I'm only going to end up paying @ $500 in interest over the life of the loan.
Many WRX/STI parts will work with a 2.5i and it's got plenty of power to have fun on some backroads. Other than your shifter, I'd address handling before power mods. Better tires, springs, struts, sway bars, end links etc. My buddy had a 96 Grand Prix and on a ride through the mountains in the rain he was amazed at how the car handled at speed...and that was when it was bone stock! The only problem, as I see it, is that you crunched the numbers with them thinking your using thier bank. So they were willing to go real low knowing their going to get you on interest. Try and get that number in writing before you say your switching banks (to your credit union). They might try and change the price when they learn they aren't getting that extra money from the intrest.
Good luck though. |

Yeah, I'm being optimistic on what trade in I might get, but I did get offered $8500 for my trade in last week at a ford dealer on a used 2002 WRX. It had 63k miles and they were asking $12,995. Maybe they had a lot less in it to show me $8500, not sure.
I'd like a white one honestly, or that gray color. Definitely NOT red, had too many of those. I'll post pics and let you guys know what's up. |

That's a very good deal.. I should know I sell Subie's at a dealership here in Oregon. However, I would like to illustrate that salesmen have a bad rap for 'hiding cost'. But, buyers have a bad rap for not EVER telling the truth. So, we exist in a grey zone of 'reality'. #1 You will NEVER get the best price you can if you are not prepared to drive off with the 'deal you wanted'. If there is any 'lack of commitment' on the buyer's part ~ you know it (meaning me, the salesman) so the salesman, as well as the sales manager, are not going to jump through hoops, getting you the deal of a lifetime... just so you can walk away and 'shop it'. Just isn't done. The number you have is soft and WILL change with a trade! Why? Christ, we have to detail it... check the safety issues for liability AND try to pay the rent with what we make selling the trade, or more likely wholesale out to a wholesale buyer. That's twice the effort for the dealer to make the same deal, right? So, where do you want to see that cost? In the final retail price of what your buying... or the lower book price on what your trading. When you are trading only ONE number is important. That is the difference of what you no longer want (the trade) and what you now can't live without (the new car). That is the number that both you and the salesman need to work at. A good salesman with an honest customer has TONS of pull with his sales manager and will work for you (we get commisions only ~ and need the deal). You want the best price? Be honest (it's so refreshing) and be ready to drive your car home if they hit the number you need. Shop at the end of the month or the end of the year (now). This is when dealers are trying to make qoutas and secure next years number of cars they will get from Subaru. Most dealers have 30-40 lenders (unless they do 'in house' finanacing ~ unheard of for new car dealers) they are looking for the best 'deal' with ANY bank your credit score qualifies you for... most times we even can go through your credit union at the point of sale and save you one more hassle, and we get nothing for the effort ($$$ wise). But, maybe we will get a return customer who was treated fairly because the dealer was treated fairly as well :-) Now onto fun things! I have a '05 Impreza OBS, I bought from my dealership in September (and I paid more then you MIGHT get your Impreza for). Get Subaru's own short shifter kit (same as in the STI's). Most performance parts (other then for turbo motor parts) are interchangeable. I have many WRX parts on my car, as well as third party WRX go fast goodies that will interchange with the NA Impreza's. Things like suspension parts, body parts etc. will swap. The exhaust cat back you can get from Subaru as well (SPT part Subaru Performance Tuning) anything from them will NOT harm your warranty and is a great place to start with a new Impreza! Thanks for the above posts...I went into the dealer after work today and this is where we got...
He offered $6500 on my trade, I said show me $9000, he said hum, dee, hum dee dum...etc. came back with $7400, I said show me 8k right now and you got a deal. By this time I was talking to the manager and he was like well I'm not sure about that, but I'll call local pontiac dealers in the morning and see if they will give anymore for it, I said fine and walked out the door. We'll see what they say in the morning. Oh and btw, they also got an 02 WRX wagon w/ 60k on it for $12,995. God damn if I haven't been thinking about that since I walked off the lot. LOL. Update tomorrow. And is $13k a good price on the 02 wrx wagon? Just in case the 06 doesn't work out I'd like to try and jump on the WRX. |

My money? If this car is sitting on the lot at a Subaru dealer, ask to see the work order from service when they inspected it. Let that be your guide!!! 60K is the exact miles you want on a used Subie if you plan to do serious mods ~ powertrain warranty is over... it's now the perfect bed for playing with. If you don't want any mods and the body is in great condition. Buy an extended warranty with the dealer (pricey ~ but so are repairs on a turbo car). I'd be all over the '02 WRX Wagon... it's a good price (and will keep 80% of it's value for a LONG time). You must live somewhere that isn't AWD country for that price. If there is alot to do on that inspection sheet... remember the extended warranty will take care of it and any other problems that could arise, the extra $2K you may have to pay for an extended warranty PLUS the purchase price on this little charmer is STILL a deal. I would be happy with $7400 on my old mans 2000 Grand Prix GTP Daytona 500 Edition. Try to squeeze another hundred out of them on the trade and take the deal or see if they can throw in some accessories instead.
