question on swaping engine in to a 98 Legacy Outback...
my old engine seen to die pretty soon...im planning to look for a better engine for my wagon...
i want something direct swap! i dont want any upgrade or any modification... i seen alot JDM motor on sale in ebay...but not sure do i need anything else beside the engine it self! can anyone direct me what to look for! thanks so much.

I believe 2.5 engines where used on only the GT

Yeah, the GT only used 2.5 liter motors (1996+), however in 1996 all AUTOMATIC Subaru Outbacks used the 2.5 liter, and from 1997 up ALL Subaru Outbacks came with the 2.5 liter.
The Impreza RS, and the Forrester also used this same motor as well. As of 1999 all Japanese manufactured Subarus with the 2.5 Liter used the newer Phase II SOHC 2.5 Liter with the MAP sensor, as did the 2000+ Subaru Legacy. At some point late in the 1999 model year Subaru of America ran out of the older Phase I engine blocks, and built the remaining 1999 Legacys with a hybrid Phase II engine block and crank, and the Phase I DOHC Heads and MAF intake. |
