anyone using a Mul-T-Lock Tranny lock?
Is anyone using the above device? If so, any rants/raves?
I'm interested in one for a 2002 US WRX. Funny thing though...their website doesn't even mention any transmision locks, only home/residential stuff....I wonder what's up with that? Andy

the mul-t lock works! it has prevented 4 known theft-attempts on my integra and i also have it on my legacy outback (dealer installed). only bad thing about it is that it looks ugly. for automatics, it locks the gear in Park and i guess you can either have it lock on 5th or Reverse for manual trannies. definately worth investing if you live in a high crime neighborhood and be confident it will make stealing your car a pita for potential thieves.
- Jon p.s there is no fool proof theft deterrant but a combination of locks to secure critical mechanisms (clutch, gear shift, steering wheel, starter kill etc) should prevent any able thief from easily taking your ride. |

I brought my Multi-T-Lock over from England, had it in my sierra saphire cosworth and then put it in my VW gti VR6. The bracket didnt not quite match so I contacted the US offices in New Jersey and they sent me the wrong brackets and after a bunch of hassle they tell me that they use blanks and have the certified installers bend them custom to fit!! So I heated mine up with a torch and bent it myself and then painted it black again. It locks in 5th only because if ya use reverse it hits the passenger seat if it not all the way back!!
They are a good deterent BUT they are not invinceable. When they first came out a Ford Cossie advertised it and somebody stole the car, what they did was to cut the shift lever just under the lock and then use vice-grips to change gears So I would recomend mounting them as low as possible but dont rely on that only! I have a Ped-A-Lock from England as well but coz the pedals are on the other side they dont quite match up, also with the key out the brake light when pressed on a scooby still lights up!! Cheers Limey. |
