My mod was a horror story. Bought a set of H9's off ebay. One blew out in an hour. Took it out and saw that the bulb had cracked off and melted the inside of my housing. Now I gotta replace the inner housing that holds the bulb. FML

I'm curious how that happened. Did he use one of those 100w bulbs ?

He bought them on eBay. Could have something to do with it. Sucks either way.

65 watts is fine. You can always purchase a harness

65W is perfectly fine. Again, as I stated above, I ran H9's for 2 years and my connectors look nothing like this. I kept my wiring clean and covered in dielectric grease to keep moisture (read: corrosion) away. Had no problems.

Saying this, a wiring harness, like the TRS bundle, would be great. You'll get the full voltage from the battery to your lights, which will give you that extra couple hundred lumens you lose through loss in the factory wiring harness.

Did the mod over lunchtime with the PIAA extreme whites.

I used a small flat head screwdriver which I heated with a torch to remove/melt the tab(s) away. worked pretty good.

The goof up wasthat in my haste, I initially unplugged and tried to fit the H9 in the damn High beam socket--which of is a completely different connector (ridiculous, I know).
As a result, I ended up taking BOTH tabs out from the inside of the new bulb connector, as well as the little tabs on the sides of the new bulb connector.

It still snapped into place quite snuggly--Should I have worries that removing those additional tabs is/may become a significant problem?

this link should come up if you google "H11" or "h9" ceramic or heavy duty harness. i'm running these for my H9's. -again, not really needed but i like the extra layer of safety.

check back earlier on this thread. it was discussed (i think).

i did the same thing. i broke the wrong tab on one, so i ended up just shaving both tabs inside both bulbs.

*mine are tight, and i did use the dielectric grease and my heavy duty harness are actually a TIGHT fit, tighter than the regular plug so i'm not worried.

I did not use any grease--didn't have any. Is it a big deal, or not so much? Of course there was none present in stock form.

BTW--heating up a small flathead screwdriver and melting away the tab worked pretty damn good as opposed to filing/dremeling...FWIW

i care more about the harnesses on my car vs. the wiring harness i linked above.

IIRC, the dielectric grease just makes it easier to remove the bulbs down the line. you can go buy some, it's less than $3 dollars for a little sleeve or tube at an auto parts store and throw it on.

-just like anti-seize on spark plugs. do you REALLY need it? i'm not sure, but it's suggested so i use it.

i'm using heavy duty harnesses on my fogs, DRL's / high beams and my low beams just in case. but i have OCD too.

i dont really see how this "protects" anything. the same amount of current will be flowing though the stock harness, and hence, any heat generated will be exactly the same. unless the worry is that the heat of the bulb itself will hurt something?

Well, the drive home didn't impress me like I had hoped. I guess I didn't pay enough attention to the stock light output/pattern to make a legit assesment. Oh well--I'm sure they are at least a little better...

The difference is substantial. Too bad you didn't get to realize how dim the stock bulbs are, but oh well - your better off now!

Not sure if its a 'sleeve' but maybe i can fish it out, will try tommorow if not, will provide pics, BTW the UPGRADE IS HUGE, I had HIDS Before in a older car (non correct retrofit) and this blows them away no contest

Just swapped a pair of Philips H9s in today and the difference is huge. Easily just as good lighting as most factory HID cars out there, but maybe not as good as my wife's TSX. Best $20 and 10 minutes I've ever spent on a car.

Threw yellow Nokyas in the high beams, but that was just to have yellow DRLs, not really a performance mod, though the H9+high beam combo is pretty damn bright.

Figured I'd jump in with my .02 as I did this mod about 7 or 8 months ago on my '09. I would recommend this to anyone, light output is so much better. I replaced my bulbs with some Phillips I bought at my local Napa. Everything been perfect since I first did this, no bulb failures or wiring harness issues. I recently unplugged the bulbs just to inspect for any possible damage. Everything perfect, one of the best mods for the money. Don't be scared doooo itttt!!!

Hi guys, I'm gonna switch my original H11 to H9 this week but was wondering what bulb I should put in my fog to have the best results? Thanks!

Did the conversion a couple weeks ago... Light output with H9 seem to be a little brighter then my hid kit.. While driving the light output is way more focused! Very happy!

HID kit

1350 lumens vs 2100. Enough said.
