"Originally designed for our 2.0L customers in the UK, the Dom 1.5XT-R uses the Garrett GT 56.5mm turbine instead of the full 60mm turbine of the Dom 2.5XT-R. The end result is a slightly quicker spooling turbo while trading off some high RPM horsepower capability."

IMO there is no reason to run this turbo on a 2.5L.....10cm2.5xtr is what should be put on a 2.5L

The 1.5xtr is basically a 20gxtr with a slightly bigger compressor wheel that does abosultely no good cause the turbine is choking it.

listen to this guy as he knows what he is taking about. I was under the impression that running an ewg would alleviate the choking situation, however that is not necessary the case. it is my understanding that it is not the size of the exhaust housing that is choking it, but rather the size of the turbine wheel itself. either way I got a really good deal on this turbo and that's why I choose it. if money was not an issue I would still choose rotated 3076 over any stock location turbo.

+1 to rotated lol Ian you had some good ole fun making that 1.5xtr fit with that TMIC. I see myself eventually getting another subaru (don't get me wrong, I love the mustang, but I do kind of miss the STI) and if I upgrade the turbo, rotated is the way I will go.

PS buy my motor so you can start to push this thing lol

I would have allready bought it if I was working good hours but i haven't had overtime in 2 months!

thanks again for all your help installing this. fyi the intercooler has been replaced with an sti one and I can't notice a difference. I should have traded you when I had the chance lol.

I will buy that motor one day, just hopefully you'll still have it by the time I get some more income.

you're the first tuner i've read who has stated this...are your sure this isn't sour grapes due to the fact that your airboy numbers on single avcs are rather mediocre shall we say...?

I made 445 on e85 with supporting mods of course with the Dom 1.5. Holds its power all the way to redline. Couldn't be happier with this turbo. I was going to go with the Dom 2.5 but decided not to. Either way I don't think I made a bad choice at all with this turbo. Dom 1.5 all the way!!!

all im saying is that if i was choosing a turbo in the 44-49lbm range, then the dom2.5 would be my choice.

it has a larger turbine wheel that both the 20gxtr and dom1.5 and makes more power with little loss in spool.

But this is all my opinion. Some people are going to want quicker spool....less top end. etc etc. picking a turbo is hard because every single person has a different idea of what they want the car to feel like.

I hope to make 400 WHP on E85 at altitude. I hope to make close to 400 WHP on 93 when closer to sea level.

[quote=Fierysun;37631048]The Dom 1.5 is not a big power producing turbo on pump. It drops off even more at the top than the 2.5. Your better off with one of the higher quality 20g variance, than the 1.5.

now your saying anything, 20g has everytime made less power and spooled slower, just keep looking at the dyno charts

Blouch makes it even harder by offering a handful of turbo's all withing spitting distance of each other. I guess it's good to have options!

^I think almost everyone has seen this, and it's probably why this turbo is so popular. Very few other turbo's have been pushed close to their limits like this, and documented/compared so fully. I bet if this same thing was done with the 20G XTR, Dom1.5 XTR, Dom2.5 XTR, etc, they would all show small incremental gains, like Phatron has suggested.

What about all the people that mull it over forever like retards because they dont have a clue about what they even want...

i saw a graph of a 2.5 on a 2011 STI it spooled very well and had a nice powerband.

A lot of people mull it over because they don't have a lot of experience driving cars with different sized turbos. I know I overthought it. It took me 3 different turbos to get a feel for what I wanted. What I thought I wanted was different than what I really wanted lol.

everyone wants the same thing....a turbo that spools like a td04 and makes the power of a gt35. but reality sucks.

Quoted for absolute truth!

For comparison. I made 340whp and 319 wtq on my 2006 wrx with a 2.5xtr and txs tmic with 850cc injectors at ~ 21psi. This is a conservative tune for road course. Very smooth power delivery and pulls all the way to redline. Once I switch to front mount and e85 I will have it re tuned and see what kind of power this setup is actually capable of making closer to its limit. In retrospect, I would have went with a rotated 30r as fitment is very tight with the tmic, and I am now deciding to ditch the tmic anyway, which I initially planned to run permanently.

I went from a vf34 making 304/334 at IAG on my hybrid with Wiesco pistons and stock 2.0 heads to a dom 1.5xtr 10cm and id1000's and made 367/363 at 21 psi. Same tuner, same dyno. Car is a completely new beast. The dom 1.5xtr is an excellent choice and it sucks that there is no e85 around me :-/

Well I said I was getting off nasioc for the night, but found this thread and preceded to read it backwards (don't ask)

Can't wait to see what the front mount does for ya
What happened to the "I don't want to push it until I can afford a new block"? haha

Sadly I feat my block has been dead for a month or two now. I noticed an increase in oil consumption and a loss in power. Did a compression tested yesterday: 145, 130, 128, 93...

So, as soon as possible I will be building the block. I knew this day would come, but I didn't think it would be this soon (72k). Oh well, time to make her stronger. Shooting for 350 whp with this setup, including new fmic and larger intakee. Can't wait!

UPDATE!!! Bringing this thread back from the dead.

Engine is currently being rebuilt by Andrewtech. I done broke a piston or two, lol. I have included pictures of the damage, for anyone interested. Hopefully car will be back on the road in a few weeks. I will post the new results and new dyno plots once complete. Now, we shall see what this turbo is really capable of on a proper ej255 w/ 93. Stay tuned for updates.
