Default tell me what you think about my WRX plans

Hey all, im just going over all the stuff i plan on doing to my car (in the near future) and i wanna know what you think!

For the first few mods, id like to go with the Crucial catback, Helix downpipe with high-flow cat, Helix up-pipe. To top off the power for a while so i can regain some funds and pay for gas, id like to get the Cobb AccessPort. I will be good with the Stage2 Setup for a while.

After all that good stuff, im looking at the HKS intake, HKS SSQ BOV, Perrin radiator hoses.

What do you guys think about that setup? Shoudl i change anything?

If needed to know, i have an 02WRX

Dont do an intake. No gains to be had on the stock turbo, can sometimes cause problems.
Dont do the BOV, it will make you slower, and possibly make your car run poorly.
Dont do radiator hoses, they are a waste, and Perrins leak through the braids half the

If you have this money leftover, and are getting an AP, then you REALLY should have at least a boost gauge. The AP isnt going to be in the car, hooked up, where you can read it, ALL THE TIME. Which means you will be totally unaware if something goes wrong. An EGT gauge would be nice to have at that stage of the game as well. I have seen several AP cars with severe EGT problems. (any basemapped EM can have this happen, again, without the gauge, you will have no idea its happening, high EGTs dont usually show any symptoms, until its too late, and the prolonged high temps have melted a ring)
Then
Do intercooler hoses
Maybe do a crank pulley (lightened, not underdrive) I like the cobb unit.

Davenow - Thanks for all that info. I thought that the things i listed were okay to get after a certaina mount of modding. Guess i will save about 400 bucks. This may sound noob, but i really dont know how to read the gauges you listed. Where can i learn about that? Beucase i agree with you 100%. When you guys say intercooler hoses, what benifits do i get from them?

MartinD - I have brand new Yokahomas

basically.......

boost- usually measured in psi, measures pressurized air from the turbo. a stock wrx is around 13.5 psi. some, like the stock unit, measure in mpa. the reading for a stock wrx is ~.08 mpa. stg 2 would be around .11 mpa or 16 psi.

egt- is for exhaust gas temp. basically keeping check on how hot its getting inside the cylinders. im usually around 1600 at wide open throttle in 5th.

Would a stock STi boost gauge be good enough? I think i have a friend that has one for sale. Also, what gauges do you recommend for easy reading and good price value? Im now thinking about getting a Defi style gauge cluster to mount in place of the clock. What other guage would be good?

Nope. I run 5th gear wot just under 1500. I have never seen over 1500 in any gear but 5th at wot and i got out of it quick. MY egt probe is in the manifold on the drivers side.

I still would not ever like to see above 1550. It would worry me. I am paranoid though.

This is kind of OT. He definately needs a boost gauge and an EGT gauge. Imo any turbo car should at least have a boost gauge. Also +1 for swaybars, I put on my rsb and it should have been the first thing i did.

although i wouldnt trust em enough to push them in the snow/heavy rain/inclement weather, they are not a bad tire for everyday driving..... on public roads, if you are doing something that they cant handle, its probably illegal....
