![]() Hi guys ! New to the site ! Would love some insight on my issue here , or to hear of any people experiencing this themselves .
Today I had went to but a new diverter valve on my rebuilt 2017 wrx 6mt with 19000km on it , and as I looked into my turbo I could see that the fins on the wheel were chipped , 3/6 of the fins are badly chipped the other 3 are almost fine , has anyone els had this happen to them with such low mileage ? It almost seems as if my turbo had sucked somthing in, if anyone has any insight or thoughts pls let me Know ! anyways thanks guys

![]() They are definitely not supposed to look like that. Something may have broke off in the cold side during the accident while the engine was running.

![]() They had a recall where the inlet came apart and sucked in parts, and its also likely something broke from the accident as its right behind the rad/support. I would definitely get a used replacement or have a new wheel put in there soon.

![]() no question some metal went through that, it had to end up somewhere, most likely in your intercooler and stopped.
Certainly won't hurt anything, just reduces efficiency of the fan as long as there's no more burs ready to let loose |

![]() That wheel is toast, get rebuilt or new turbo asap. Also look downstream, hopefully the big pieces stopped in the intercooler...which I'd also throw out. Something obviously got sucked in and destroyed those blades, and some bits may have even made it past the intercooler, small as they would have to be. I'd remove the intercooler and intake manifold and thoroughly clean the manifold and toss the intercooler. Not worth keeping, a small piece could become dislodged and cause a valve to stay open long enough to misfire under boost and cause other problems.

![]() The wheel has relatively low inertia, but it spins in the ballpark of 150k rpm. That sucker is waaaayyyy off balance and has definitely seen some debris. I would replace it.
