Looking for a wider tire for my '02 WRX
I'm currently running a 17X8 rim, with JIC coilovers (I am at a 1in drop) and a firm sidewall. I would like to move up to a 17X9 in rim. What would be the right size and offset for the rim with the least amount of potential damage to the cars bearings and NO rubbing issues? Sorry, I am a complete noob on tire sizing and my friend is not available to help me (he's in Iraq).

...an '02???
...won't work unless ya cut/roll the hell outa the rear fenders. somebody used 17x9's on front and 17x8.5's in back with the same size tires on both ends....and the PERFECT offset on both ends....don't remember the numbers on that or tire sizes ya can get 245/40's on without too much trouble---depending on which tire ya want to run....and some 255/40's. ...and the autox crowd does their own thing..... |

It can be done with some stiff spring rates. 17-9 38 offest, I have some, you won't want to run a lot of tire to put too much stress on the bearings. Good luck.

45 offset would be OK with probably 255 tires. Any bigger tire and you might rub the strut. Lower offset will give you better strut clearance but you need to adjust ride height, fender issues to fit.
I'm going with 17x9 +45 275/40s and plan to mess with spacers, and ride height to get it perfect. |
