Default Replacing 2009 STI Stock Kenwood Receiver

Hi all. I have a 2009 Subaru STI sport tech that came with a stock Kenwood receiver. The receiver is on its last leg and needs to be replaced.

I am so far removed from the car audio world I don’t even know where to start. The current head unit has an old school disc nav system, dvd player and some basic engine information. Fuel consumption, some digital gauges for speed and engine rpm, maintenance records, etc.

For the engine diagnostic information, I've been googling around and can’t seem to find a unit that indicates it will display some of that information. Do they even exist? If so, what should I look for? I’m assuming there is a plug in the back of the old unit that is contacted to the ECU. If so, do I need a specific unit that would plug in the same way? Any other things I might need to be aware of when looking for a unit? I am not looking for upgrade or replace any of the other stock audio parts like speaks or amp.

Thanks!

Yeah, they make stuff. There's adapters that tap into the can bus and obd ports. I just changed my 2011 head unit not to long ago. Check out crutchfield to get an idea of what your in for.
