UK/JDM spec grilles for MY98-00 Foresters?
Since there's already a "Where can I find this grille?" thread in this forum I figured I needed another title.
I know that in the UK and Japan the MY98-00 Foresters (e.g., S turbo) were available with a black plastic mesh grille that doesn't have any chrome. I thought that might be a tasteful and reversible appearance mod for my Forester. I would need to find one of these with the surround painted Black Diamond Pearl, which I know was a UK-spec color as well as in the US. Does anyone know whether that grille is readily available from one of our importer vendors or via a friendly overseas i-clubber? If so, what would the cost plus shipping to the eastern US be? This isn't some exotic STi part - it should be a standard replacement part. TIA, Ed |

I will check tomorrow at work. I have a 2000 & 2001 Japanese
Forester parts book. It should be in there. Pam |

Ed, the standard grill has screws that hold on the chrome part. You can unscrew them and take off that is you want to see how it'll look. BTW Pam, thanks for the sti emblem for my car, I took off the Forester turbo emblem and with a little work, (screwing a custom bracket on to grill) made the new plate fit. It looks great and I'm looking forward to getting our little project installed soon .

ferretboy - I kind of gathered that. I'm getting ready to install a pair of Hella Supertone horns (once I paint them black so that they don't stand out) and I will have the grille off anyway. I was thinking that, if the cost wasn't prohibitive, I'd just get the non-US grille/pink bagde combo and remove the US-spec grille altogether. Then when the day comes to sell the car, just pop the chrome grille/black badge combo back on the car. Easier if not cheaper than putting the pink badge on the chrome grille.
Thanks, Ed edit: bump - Pam? Anyone? Last edited by lark6; 07-15-2001 at 11:04 AM. |

Bumping again - embarrassed this time.
I just got done installing the Hella Supertones and when I went to reinstall the grille, I sheared off both (imagine all caps here) of the yellow clips that hold the grille in place. Now I have to drive around with a gaping hole until I get to the dealer and get new clips...and probably have them put the grille back on. While it's off, however, no time like the present to hunt down a turbo S grille. Pam: never heard back from you - can you get one in Black Diamond Pearl? It's sort of a rush job now. Ed |

(in best homer simpson voice) DOH!!!
Ed, man not your day buddy. Hey I'd just do what I described with a standard black grill and be done with it, that is unless you want the FT grill. You might try to PM Go Go Go...he might be able to get ya one from his buds in Japan. ~ferretboy signing ou....mmmmmm dohoonuts! |

Man, ferret, what're you doin' out here this late!?
Of course this gives me the chance to experiment with the grilles. Horns wired up and working fine, though. Ed |
