Default A New World Record: Stock Turbo STi goes 11.219 @ 122.1. Going for 10's! Mikey Tuned

Event: 1/4 Mile Drag Racing
Location: RaceWayPark, Old Bridge, NJ
Ambient Temp: 65F
Elevation: ~0
Weather: Cloudy, cool
Track and Conditions: slippery, spin spin spin
Tires: 18" MT drags

Car: 2012 STi
Tuner: STi Mikey
Dyno Info: EFI's Mustang
Transmission: Stock 6 Speed
Gear: 4th
Peak HP: 355whp
Peak Torque: 462wtq
Baseline hp/tq for a stock on same dyno: 220whp
Target Boost: 22.5
Target AFR: 12.0
Fuel: E85 (closer to e90)

Engine/Power Modifications: Cattless DP welded to a muffled turn down, Composite TGV's, TXS Intake, ID1000cc, Aero FPR (for future use of FTW purple), Invidia EL Headers, TheShop STG1 Shortblock (stock compression CP's). COBB APV2

Weight reductions: Typical seats and spare. No Catback, bumper beams, ECT. Carbon Hood / Fenders. Car was weighted in at 3090 with driver. Nothing to hide here, this build is specifically targetting 1 thing.. 10's utilizing an untouched stock turbo car.

Future mods: Carbon Trunk and doors, Carbon Driveshaft, a little more weight reduction (within reason, has to be able to be reversed) 17's with slicks, light weight brakes.

A quick overview of the project:

I met John about a year ago and recently saw some you-tube video's of him having some fun on the street. His driving is second to none. I was in complete awe. I have seen some drivers, and have put in work myself. But this guy I feel is on another level. This is just my opinion, but let the ET to Trap speak for itself

Since I never took my STi back to the track after going 11.50's, and have since moved to a GTR, I decided to extend a sponsorship to him. I wanted to get my STi in the 10's, but was enticed by a 35r then moved on to a GTR. So I figured this would be a cool project. EFI got on board and helped him out with labor and fabbing. At first we wanted the Stock Turbo STi record, VF record, and GR record. I never thought it would be possible, but we are going for 10's

1st pass:

Crunched second, stayed in it anyway, [email protected]

2nd pass:

Spun viloently to a chitty 1.66 60ft. 11.337@ 114.5

3rd pass:

Snapped an axle

Yesterday was the dial in day in terms of LC and TP. The 118mph pass was done at 30 psi of TP. The record pass was done on 12 psi. The axle snapped at 10. We need a bit more suspension work as well as lower LC to put it all together.

I feel a high 1.4 will get us a 10.99. With the next round of lightweight mods, 10.89-10.95. I still can not believe that I think that this is possible

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENXQ_...ature=youtu.be

Axle is over nighted. Going for 11.1 this coming weekend

Wow congrats! Big turbo times on a small vf that's insane. If it runs 10's I'm getting rid of my bigger turbo setup and I'm going back to stock turbo.

Did he miss/slow shift 4th gear or something (especially since the other run was so much faster)? Seems like there a fair amount of time left in it if that is the case. Pretty insane driving regardless.

It only picked up 18 in the last half and it seems like a bunch of the other fast stock turbo STis are picking up low 20s (and probably even his earlier pass), is what I mean.

3090 with the driver? that would mean at least 300 lbs of weight reduction over stock if not 400.

Yeah, 12psi of tire pressure really hurt the mph. I'm setting up the car as my car was set up a couple years back, for Saturday at least.

I dont have an exact number for weight reduction. I would assume considering gas levels, 400+. Since we didn't have a number we weighed it at the track to be sure. My guess was 3050.

At 22.5 psi, I really could not believe it either. With fewer parts we were making 450 @ 24psi. I wouldnt go past 22.5 this time, no point.

Complete bull on the dyno tq number. Something wasnt setup properly in the software. Great track numbers no doubt. But it only shows a good driver mod. http://www.wrxforums.com/forums/73-s...faceoff-3.html

look at post #24. That was a full weight plus mods on a stock turbo stock block 2010 wrx. It trapped at 112mph with 23.5 psi. And thats at a track thats 3000 ft above sea level. So no real big feat in trapping 114 mph in a car that has reduced weight and at a track at sea level. And this was on 360/350 dynojet numbers.

Def a nice driver mod on the car though.

Trap is low due to very low tire pressures supposedly. The tq numbers do seem high though. 118 is moving pretty good however in the other runs. PersonaIly I trapped 213.78 on 93 octane in my bolt on 2011 wrx.

edit - (213 was clearly a typo)

I should have quoted fastblueufo, I was just comparing his 112mph link which was on e85. Not saying my car was any thing close to the op's.

Congrats on your runs and I hope you get 10's that would be awesome.. I wish it was NED so I could go watch.

Haha guys. And fastblueUfo, the car has trapped 118.xx. Ron and I had a 5 speed car trapping 121.5. 112.5 at elevation is good bro, nice driving!

Something not set up right at EFI? Yea, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Oh but yes I do. Its easy to not have something set correctly and get rogue tq numbers on an eddy brake dyno. The 465 ft/lbs on a vf should be your first clue. And especially on s mustang dyno which reads 16% lower thsn dynojet numbers on average.

Not knocking the track numbers at all. Or the hp numbers. Def a solid tune with OUTSTANDING DRIVING. but yea, im gonna knock on that tq number all day long.

Ill have to throw the car on a dynojet to see what it is making. If I had an honest guess I would have to assume 375whp and close to 500 wtq. I put my 07 on a dynot jet back in the day and made 375 / 495. That was on 24 psi though now to think of it.

For Mustang dynos with calibration from 5 years ago, maybe. New ones are about 5%
