Default Best Service Dealership in Northern VA

Hey guys -

I was wondering what is the best dealership for WRX service in the Metropolitan DC / Northern Virginia area? My mom used to use Farrish. I also know of Stohlman in Vienna. Thanks for your help.

I agree Farrish is horrible, personally I take my car to Dulles Subaru in Leesburg. Guys down there are really nice.

I've only had routine maintenance done by Dulles Subaru in Leesburg and Paul Brothers in Herndon.

I wasn't happy with Stohlman when they worked on my VW, but that was 10 years ago.

I'm interested in finding the best place in Northern VA to have major repairs done. It appears that my WRX has developed a "Cold Clutch Judder" as described in the Subaru TSB 03-51-02R, so I need to take it into a dealer to be checked out before the warranty expires.

Based on a thread that I read in another forum, it looks like some dealerships do the required work willingly and others give you the runaround or don't do a good job.

Has anybody had their clutch replaced by a Subaru dealership? Can you recommend the dealership that did the work....or tell me which dealerships to avoid?

Given what I've seen so far, it doesn't looks like Farrish is the best choice.

I can't imagine Dulles giving you the run around. Just bring the info for the TSB with you and duplicate it for them.

Default IO got my WRX from Paul Brothers

It has the cold clutch judder. Tomorrow I leave it off to get fixed to for them to take in trade ont he STI I am leasing.

I have been really happy with Paul Brothers for buying the car. The service seems OK - the WRX never needed anything but oil changes.

I tend to stay away from the big chains (Brown, Rosenthal and Fitzgerald, in particular) because of the horrific stories I have heard form people who worked their.

I used to flag with a guy who was a mechanic at Fitzgerald. He walked out when they wanted him to tell an odler woman that a repair covered by warranty wasn't covered by warranty.

Default Paul Brothers Experiance

I am on my second WRX, and Paul Brothers has been my primary dealership. I am in search of another dealership, I can't tell if all Subaru dealerships suck, since I have only had experiance with Stohlman and Paul Brothers, but I am not happy with either one.

I had one WRX lemon lawed through Paul Brothers, they could never figure out what was wrong with my 2002 WRX, so I got it lemoned lawed.

I am now trying to convince them that if I have to roll down the windows to drive the car because of an intense raw fuel smell in the cabin, that it is not normal, but I haven't so far had a whole lot of luck doing that.

My previous experiance involved a cracked radiator, that Paul Bros replaced. Once they replaced it the lower radiator hose started leaking. Unfortunately neither Stolhmans nor Paul Bros would cover the repair because the car was now out of the original manufacturs warranty, and was now on the extended gold plus subaru plan, and "Hoses are wear items". Which is silly because no one had the hoses in stock because they have never had to replace them.

Grrrr..

So I figure my current fuel smell problem will probably take a couple of trips and I might have success with Paul Bros if I can convince them (with SOAs help) that it is worth fixing.

I did a Google search on WRX gas smell and founda reference toa leaking fuel rail. There are lot of Google references and not all to Subarus.

Leaking gas would be a safety and/or emissions issue and should be covered.

I am still convinced Stohlmans Subaru techs are great. They fixed on the first visit what they guys at Manassas were not able to in three tries.

Is paul brothers good on quality cars? I'm thinking of buying my car there since it's so cheap and driving it home.

<-------won't have to deal w/ there service

Are they shady on their cars?

Default Probably safe

I have bought 1 WRX from them, which they consequentially replaced under the VA lemon law with another one, when they couldn't fix it.

Would I buy another subaru from them? Probably, the sales person that I delt with there wasn't pushy and was generally a nice guy; and want to encourage that behavior. (Ben Geere was his name). I was also able to get a very good deal on the first subaru from them.

Will I buy another Subaru? That is a different question, and at this point in time I wouldn't; solely because my experiance of dealing with SOA and the Subaru dealerships.

As far as service, I would take it to Fitz in German town. I wouldn't think twice about it or any other dealerships.

Now if your talking about buying, I found the best prices to be Dulles Motors in Leesburg. I have searched at Fitz mall, Stohlmans, Paul Brothers and some other dealerships out of state as well.

I flagged races at Summit Point with a mechanic who quit his job at Fitzgerald Dodge when they told him he had to tell a woman that a warranty repair wasn't warranty and she would have to pay.

I wouldn't even request a quote fromt hem for either my 2005 STI or my wife's 2005 legacy GT.

They do get paid, whether you pay for it or SOA pays for it.

Are any of these places mod friendly? I'm thinking Prodrive power pack 2 level stuff. Nothing major.

I must totally disagree with the person that says take your car to Fitzgerald Auto Malls.....

The experience i have had with Fitzgerald is by far the worst experience i have ever had getting a car worked on by ANY mechanics.

First off Fitzgerald sells their parts for Subaru at about a 40-60% markup from MSRP (varies depending on the part)

Not only that, but i took my Scooby in to Fitz to get the ABS light diagnosed. Now keep in mind the last time anyone serviced the brakes was over 1200 miles before Fitz. When i get my car back from Fitz, they tell me that i am missing a bolt from the caliper on the rear pass. side but it was nothing to serious "but i should get it taken care off soon". I drove the car home 2miles down the road, and when i went to drive my car to work the next morning, while coming up towards a red light my brakes completely failed. The so called bolt that mysteriously went missing was both bolts that hold the rear caliper on......Im sorry but, if Fitz didn't remove those bolts that caliper would have fallen off WAY! long ago.

Fitzgerald auto malls = the worst place to get service, the worst place to buy parts, and i will NEVER patronize a fitzgerald automall ever again..

The people that have helped me through a lot of the troubles with my car are the parts department at Wilkins Subaru in Glen Burnie Maryland. They sell parts cheaper then MSRP, and ended up saving me several hundred dollars.

Fitz pretty much tried to kill me, and because they "told me about some bolt missing" they covered their asses from the liability of it. Who lets someone drive away when they are missing the bolts that hold the brake caliper on???????????????????????????????? ending my story before i really start to throw out the profanity.

I had a great service from Carlos at Fitz auto mall in Rockville.

The rest of them are dicks and told me that my car with 30,000 miles needed $100 fuel system cleaning or it will stall and die.

I only got basic maintenence so I can't comment on the price gouging.

I did do the 30k service, Carlos discounted the package to reflect the ommision of the cleaning service. Just a guess, but I think it was around $400-$450.

I've always gone to Stohlman. I can't say enough good things about them. At one point I even wrote a letter to the manager about how pleased I was with the service I get every single time. I know someone on here wasn't happy with Stohlman when they had their VW in there--I personally think VW's are crap. (Most of the service bays there are for the VW's, and 2 or 3 for Subaru's, if that says anything about reliability). I made the mistake of taking it to Manassas Subaru in October this year because it was closer since I moved, but noooo way ever again. They were worthless. I have a clicking/ratcheting sound when the car changes gears between 2nd & 3rd, and Manassas told me to get it to a car wash with the undercarriage wash because it looked like a piece of mud was between the differential and the differential protector-HAHAHAHA YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME!!! And the mechanic even heard and knew the noise was coming from the front of the car when we test drove together....idiots.
