Default New 2007 WRX TR issue.

Not to familiar with this car yet, but I am hearing this weird ticking (for lack of better word) noise coming from behind the drivers side fender. Car has 600 miles on it, and I never noticed it before. Almost sounds like a mini diesel truck.

I just did a mini road trip (200 miles), but I kept it slow and varied my speed the best I could. Have not beat on the car at all, did a few little 3rd gear sprints, but nothing terrible.

Is this a normal sound or should I take it to the dealer?

I can't think of anything off the top of my head that would make a sound behind the drivers side fender, but if no one else has any advice on what it might be I say definetly take it to the dealer to be safe. It's safer to take it in and have nothing wrong than to hold off and it end up being something that can be really damaging to your new car.

Behind the driver's side fender? Is it coming from the engine bay? If so, it's probably the lifters on your boxer 4 engine. Subaru engines make some very unusual sounds but are reliable to a fault.

No worries.

It just might be your tensioner. Not sure why but mine start making a little clicking or tapping type sound, although it took until around 18,000 miles for it to start.

It speeds up with RPM's not engine speed? If so that might be what it is.

It's hella annoying too I guess.

I asked a mechanic friend of mine to listen to it and he said, yeah your tensioner's making some noise. But I say some noise hell, you can hear it from across the parking lot!

I'm hoping at some point it'll just need to be replaced or rebuilt so maybe I'll get a better unit.

Default mine too

I drove home an 06 WRX sedan on saturday and it makes a bit of noise around 2400 to 2800 RPMs too. Sounds like a ticking or something. Very annoying sound and it makes the car sound cheap....but it's no where near loud enough for somone to hear it across the parking lot.
