Default Who's got the decoder ring for the Zaino Instructions

I guess i'm slow, but I've heard so many good things about these products that I thought i'd read the product instructions on their site.

This is what I got:

use z1 followed by z6, but not before 4 and never on Tuesday when you should use z7, but only with a clean towel and bucket filled with Avian water and watch out or you'll drop the clay bar.

Tell me it's easier than the instructions make it seem......

Flame-on.

Zaino is not that hard...

Wash car with Dawn
Claybar with Z-claybar
wash off residue
Add 4-5 drops of ZFX to Z5 and/or Z2 in supplied bottles
Spread product thinly
Wait for product to dry (30 mins to 1 hour with ZFX)
Buff to a shine
Repeat applications of Z5 or Z2 as desired, up to 3 coats in a day.

I don't see why you think it's so difficult

It's very easy. Here is my Zaino for Dummy's:

Follow dookiebob instructions.

The first time is the hard one cause you aren't sure how to do it. But aren't we all the first time. After that it will be a breeze.

Using Zaino ain't exactly rocket science. The instructions that come with it are over a page long but this is mostly because they offer lots of tips on how to detail your car properly.

It seems hard at first. Just read the sheet over slowly, it helps a lot...

Also, it is really important to let the car sit for 30+ min between coats. I did that on our Miata and it looks AMAZING, I didn't do it on my rex and it still looks good, but not as good as the Miata... The time you let it sit lets it bond to the paint really nicely...

Also, you don't really have to use ZFX after your first big application of Zaino. You only really need to use it if you're applying multiple coats of the polish in one day (which I always seem to do :-) )

Don't you have to wait six hours between coats of zaino + ZFX?

How long does it last? Im hesitant to spend all the time because i dont have a garage and my car sits outside. Plus i live near the beach, so the moisture in the air and dirt ect will just ruin it overnight.

You definately do not have to wait 6 hours between coats. That's the whole point of ZFX, it allows you to do multiple quotes quickly...

As far as the longevity of the wax, it's the best I've seen yet. After two weeks when my old Zymol wax was wearing off, the Zaino not only looks awesome, but the paint is stil pretty damn smooth too... I've been nothing but impressed.

As a bonus too, all of our cars live outside, and near a pinetree (though I do my best not to park under them).

Oh, and one more thing. I was Zaino'ing my rex in the shade of a pine tree and had just finished my third coat. As I was waxing I went back and noticed some sap had dripped onto the trunk! I was really mad to say the least. I went over with a rag to make an attempt to remove it. Get this, it just wiped off like it was water! The Zaino protected the paint so well and covered it so completely that sap just wiped RIGHT off!

As you can see I like Zaino, a lot :-D

You are right, the instructions actually say to use the ZFX mixture within 6 hours. However, they do say no more than three coats within 24 hours.

The wait time between coats (using ZFX) is not 6 hours. It's 20-30 minutes and could vary depending on weather conditions. You need to use any polish you activated with the ZFX within 6 hours of mixing. Here are the instructions. It's pretty straight forward:

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

Each ZFX™ kit comes with a 2ml vial of accelerator mix and several 2 ounce mixing bottles. A single ZFX™ kit provides enough mix to accommodate 16-20 ounces of Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2, Z-3 or Z-5).

1) Pour one to two ounces of Show Car Polish into a 2 ounce mixing bottle. For each ounce of polish, add 4-5 drops of ZFX™ (no more than 10 drops for two full ounces), screw the cap back on, and shake vigorously for 60 to 90 seconds.

2) While you get your towels and applicators ready, allow the ZFX™ enabled Zaino Show Car Polish to sit for five minutes so the ZFX™ can begin activating the polish. Give the applicator bottle a final shake for 10 seconds before using.

3) Apply Zaino Show Car Polish enabled with ZFX™ with a 100% cotton cloth applicator. Use the polish sparingly. A small amount goes a long way, and you will be applying multiple coats.

4) Squirt a dime size dab of polish on your applicator and rub it into your paint using circular hand motions. Then, go over the same area using a straight back and forth motion on top panels and an up and down motion on side panels. Allow the polish to haze over for 20 to 30 minutes.

5) Buff off the Show Car Polish residue with a high quality, 100% made in the USA cotton towel.

6) After buffing, spray the car with a light mist of Z-6™ Gloss Enhancer detailing spray. Z-6™ will help buff away any remaining residue and enhances the brightness of the finish. Using Z-6™, the next coat of Zaino Show Car Polish will apply even easier.

7) You're now ready to apply your next coat of Zaino Show Car Polish enabled with ZFX™. There's no need to wait. Simply repeat steps 4-7 above one more time. Apply no more than three coats of ZFX™ in a 24 hour period. For optimum results, use ZFX™ within 6 hours of mixing. Use a fresh cotton buffing towel for removal of each coat.

When you are finished polishing, wash the mixing bottle inside and out with a heavy concentration of liquid dishwashing detergent and thoroughly rinse. The ZFX™ mixing bottles cannot be reused if the polish remains in the bottle for more than 12 hours. After 12 hours, it is not possible to remove the ZFX™ accelerator from the mixing bottles. Throw the mixing bottle and any unused polish contents away after 12 hours.

ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive should be used with Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2 or Z-5, Z-3 for non clear coated) twice a year on an everyday car and once a year on a show car. Also, please reapply ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive after every ten coats of Zaino Show Car Polish (Z-2 or Z-5, Z-3 for non clear coated). ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive will never remove Zaino. Also the NEW ZFX™ Flash Cure Accelerator Additive is an incredible product and could be used as often as you like... it's up to you. It will tighten up and strengthen the polish system and increase the gloss.

<------- go here for Zaino tips

zaino is a synthetic polymer based polish that last between 6-8 months on average.

your average carnuba based wzx lasts 6-8 WEEKS, that's right. And it breaks down faster it your car is exposed to the elements 24/7 (like mine is.) And if the temperature is very hot, that 6-8 weeks becomes shorter.

NASIOC loves Zaino

No. You can wax it immediately.

Check the Zaino website. Z1 is not needed if you use ZFX (an accelerant). I use Z5 (as many coats as needed) to remove swirls/cobwebs and then a a couple coats of Z2. In between and after I use Z6 (detailing spray).

you do not "wax" with a clay bar. a clay bar is for removing deep, ground in dirt. basically, it cleans EVERYTHING off your car. You want to do this because Zaino is 99.9 % Optically perfect, which means IT WILL NOT HIDE ANY IMPERFECTIONS like a carnuba wax may.

As for the Z1/Z2/Z3 questions, you need either Z1 or ZFX, as Z2/Z3 needs something to bond to on your car. Just dawn/clay is not enough. Z2 is for cars with clear coat and Z3 is for single stage paint jobs (no clear coat). To find out it your car has clear coat, use a mild abrasive (rubbing compound, Meguiers #9, etc) on a not too visble part of the car (door jam, lower panel, trunk) and see if the color of your car runs off onto the cloth. if it does, then you have a single stage paint job and Z3 is needed. if no color shows up, then you have clear coat and get Z2. Most cars in the last 10 years have clear coat (minus lexus's in black-those are single stage-even new ones). if you have a WRX, then get Z2.

Hope this helps. . .

I wanted to eloborate on David's post regarding the "99.9% optically perfect" part. Only the Z2 is 99.9% optically perfect. That's why they recommend you always finish up with a coat of Z2.

You may want to check out the Zaino website. ....or read this site for a good explanation of clay bar usage:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/clwicl.html

Zaino recommends washing your car with Dawn (the regular blue stuff) to remove any wax. Apparently, Dawn has a high alkaline content and will strip wax without damaging your finish. Obviously, you don't want to use Dawn unless you are trying to remove the wax layer from your car. When it's clean, rub your hand over the car's surface. Do you feel grit or imperfections? If so, it's advisable to use a clay bar to remove those contaminants before applying coats of Zaino. If not, you'll just be sealing them in. With such a new car you may not have to do a lot of prep.
