Default Intercooler insulator care

Service Manual says to use a new insulator (the rubber ring between hose and intercooler) and to apply a thin coat of liquid paraffin to the inner periphery on the insulator before reinstalling the intercooler. From all the guides and videos I've seen; I've never seen them replace the insulator or put liquid paraffin on it.

I assume that if the insulator isn't damaged, then it's okay to re-use it? What happens if I don't apply a thin layer of paraffin before installing the intercooler? Will it leak?

Just reinstall it. You can use a light smear of oil if it doesn't want to slide together.
Watch that ring, though - it's a known weak spot for intake leaks.
