I'm ok with the Corolla so long as it has the multi mode AWD setup. There are rumors it's going to be FWD.

Upon first setting my eyes on the car, I realized that there’s really very little about the GR Yaris that looks special. Sure, the fascia and sheetmetal are a bit different than what’s on the standard Yaris (and there are two fewer doors), but honestly, the changes aren’t that dramatic to the layperson.

And that is why it didn't come here. Not because it would have to be crash tested. It's because the American car market is largely superficial. A sleeper, a wolf in sheep's clothing, just doesn't appeal to anyone but enthusiasts, purists, WRC fans, etc. The car isn't loud in the looks, nothing screams "LOOK AT ME" like Neil McCauley. Small cars sell. Look at the Miata, look at the 86. Maybe not in huge numbers or anything but this car was never going to be a high volume seller in any market it is sold in yet they are all selling, everyone of them Toyota produces. It would have sold here in enough numbers to justify bringing it here. It would even get some Bubba buyers, would just need some time. My check is sitting right here and I'm willing, Toyota, to write a check for the car in full today. Circuit Pack edition. Pure white first option and Scarlet Flare second color choice. Let me know when it's available for pickup.. I'm come get it from your HQ, as I'm local.

If it's FWD, they'll market it as a GTI competitor and we'll know, point blank, that Subaru had a hand in that as they don't want the competition here. And it'll be concrete we didn't get the GR Yaris as well. F'in Subaru.

If it's FWD, then it was a Toyota North America money decision. Less complex, more potential margin, less chance of warranty headaches. They would rather push you to a Corolla Cross if you want AWD. Remember, Toyota NA didn't seem interested until the Yaris GR4 came out and people in NA complained. We are going to get a compromise, just how much, who knows.

That would be a hope. Maybe that's why the new WRX seems to be getting a drop in Outback/Ascent FA24.

GR Corolla was in the works before GR Yaris was publicly known. I think the webpage for a US hot hatch was in response to the NA reception of the GR Yaris news, but the product and development plan was set way before any of us knew about the GR Yaris.

Fingers crossed someone at Toyota is actually noticing all the chatter of the Yaris GR-4 not coming to the U.S.A. and how much we want one.

That makes sense. A little bit of PR diffusing.

as a little solace, the car isn´t perfect. I know from a few owners that the rear diff will shut off after spirited driving on track because of the temperatures. And at least one rear diff was destroyed in this process.

Cool, maybe Toyota should consult with BMW on diff reliability. They can certainly learn a thing or two about reliability from zee Germans.

Maybe 1st-gen Yaris GR will work out all the kinks, then they'll bring 2nd-gen here.
Subaru needs a new Justy.
Yaris = Justy
Yaris GR = Justy STI

dont get your hopes up, the computer chip shortages are expected to continue through 2022....companies can barely make enough of their best selling high profit margin vehicles
